Historically, more often than not, teams wait until the last possible second to officially match. It could be worse. I believe it was 7 days in the last CBA? That left you in limbo for a full week while other teams scooped up all the other FA's.
I have to avoid falling into this trap, too. As a Rockets fan, I do want him hurt, because that would improve our chances at keeping that draft pick (we lose it if the Knicks make the playoffs, I think). But as a HUMAN BEING, I want him healthy, because otherwise I would be wishing ill will on another human being who may not deserve it. We are human beings first, and Houston Rockets fans second. Never forget this. Anyway, back on topic...well, not really anything to add, other than I just want this ordeal over with. Do we have a credible center or not? Worse comes to worst, we could always start Pat-Pat at center--I know that's not his natural position, but hey, he produces more than Hill or Thabeet.
There is no offer sheet. The Rockets would have had to cut Thabeet in order to sign Gasol to that offer sheet. I'm sure they're just trying to work a sign and trade.
OK - I agree with you there. I do think the Rockets are involved in some fashion, but also think Gasol and his agent can use that as leverage to work a better deal for Gasol and that 5th year on the Grizz offer.
Marc Gasol has a new agent in Arn Tellem. Same agent as his brother Pau. Arn apparently has a history with Grizz owner, been known to hate him. Not that it would matter in negotiations. Just a "FYI".
So, two possibilities: 1. Gasol just wants more money from Memphis. or 2. Gasol wants his ass out of Memphis. If the former, Gasol and the Grizz will reach an agreement soon and he'll stay, he was just using the HOU offer to scare up a better deal from Memphis. If the latter, it seems the Houston offer was not enough to force Memphis into not matching (oh well, doesn't hurt to try), Gasol will have to threatend to take the 1 year qualifying offer from Memphis if not signed and traded to Houston in order to leverage his way out of Memphis.

This is the best summary I've read today. I don't think we can assume anything else I've read in this thread. The problem right now for Houston fans is that we don't know which of those two options Marc wants. So we sit back and wait for the hand to play out. If DM and McHale did their jobs and recruited Gasol, then we should be starting the season with him. I just hope it doesn't take more than a few days to come to a resolution. That or that DM is busy working the phones completing other deals while we wait.
via twitter: @CAGrizBlog Heisley was clear about Gasol. Owner says MG will play for Griz this season whether he accepts Griz offer, signs offer sheet or accepts QO.
So... seems Gasol does want out of Memphis. Else why would the owner bring up "accepts QO" as a possibility?
Kinda odd that Pau doesn't want to come here (houston) but would convince Marc to leave Memphis to come here. Not sure exactly why Memphis doesn't want anything in compensation to losing Marc in free agency, my only thought would be that they're trading within their division? Eh either way, I guess we'll definitely have time/room to develop our bigs/mediums/smalls.
It does seem that way. And if this tweet is true, then I think it's time to move on, at least for this offseason. I dunno. Maybe next season Marc Gasol becomes a Rocket. But for now, it sounds like the Grizz are calling his bluff and there's now no chance he'll be here in a sign and trade this season. Time to move on.
