Stern would demand more. But like I said earlier, that is something I would consider if Paul opted in for one more year. KBergCBS Ken Berger
At this point, I don't even want CP3 on this team. I'm content with Lowry running this team and he's actually in shape. Looking at recent pics of CP3, dude looks overweight and out of shape. Can't be good for his glass knees.
Call me crazy, but... for our team, I probably prefer Gasol to Paul. Paul is a true superstar, but he's not gonna block any shots or be a huge improvement over Lowry on the defensive end (and even if this team improves from top 5 to #1 on offensive efficiency, it's not gonna be a true contender ranked where they are on D). If we get Paul, I'd look to flip him for a big man right away.
I'm with ya, CH. What made those recent championship-level Lakers teams so dangerous were the trees they had down low. Gasol and Bynum scoring and swallowing up every rebound. Defending the paint. Not to mention, they were close to unbeatable whenever Odom brought his A-game off of the bench. Phil gone Odom dumped Kobe a year older This Lakers team isn't so frightening anymore.

I dont necessarily disagree but you get Paul, maybe another star comes along. Get your (super)stars first, worry about the fit or surrounding cast later. Star driven league, if you aint got one, SOL aren't you? As good as Pau Gasol might be, not sure he's taking you to the championship and I'm not sure how many guys are lining up to play with him or along side him. Yeah, tell me I'm dreaming, stupid, or flat out crazy.
Legal action for what? HE IS NOT A FREE AGENT. If ownership doesn't think they are getting enough in return then they don't have to trade him.
The league should freeze Stern out. No body deal with N.O. Demps should just declare fire sale and sue Stern.
[rQUOTEr]A seemingly imminent Chris Paul trade has collapsed for the second time in five days. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the league-owned New Orleans Hornets and the Los Angeles Clippers could not complete their proposed Paul trade because the Clippers ultimately decided the NBA's asking price for the All-Star guard was too high. On Thursday, NBA commissioner David Stern vetoed a three-team trade agreement struck by the Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets to send Paul to the Lakers. At the NBA's direction, sources said, New Orleans was insisting upon the inclusion of both shooting guard Eric Gordon and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round draft choice in addition to former All-Star center Chris Kaman and prospects Al-Farouq Aminu and Eric Bledsoe. The Clippers found the demands "too steep," according to one source close to the process, even after Paul told the Clippers he would invoke the 2012-13 option in his contract as part of the trade, ensuring that L.A. would have him next to Blake Griffin for at least two seasons. It was not immediately known if the Hornets and Clippers plan to keep discussing a deal for Paul or if the Clippers, like the Lakers before them, are so frustrated they're prepared to walk away.[/rQUOTEr] http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/...lippers-trade-dies-price-too-high-sources-say

The Union has threatened a lawsuit on Paul's behalf for the conflict of interest of Stern running the team. I saw a post on another board that explained it much better than I can but it made a lot of sense. That they had put Demps in as a way to avoid the conflict but with Stern over ruling things for them and him saying he did it for Basketball reasons and getting info that other owners were barking, sets them up for a suit. I have been agreeing with you the entire time, but after reading the argument from a lawyer it made me pause, I wish I could find it.. DD
