I'll be honest - if Wade is itching to be head coach again, let him go. I'd rather he torpedo some other team as HC than take of ours down the line.

Anyone want to see Capers run the big show again? Didn't think so.

Green Bay's Defense sucks. Capers sucks.

I know he is happy in Houston... but hell, if he wants to be a head coach let him and Kubiak duel it out. Offense vs defense, winner takes HC duties. College overtime rules -- no special teams.

McNair isn't going to let him walk without first offering to make him the highest paid assistant coach in football.

I could see this happening. Now that everyone sees how dominant this Defense can be, I doubt they let him walk.

Although there will be teams who are interested, there are also plenty of coaches out there who will be targeted before him such as Cowher, Gruden, and Fisher. List of vacancies or probable ones:
    • Jacksonville
      Indy
      SD
      Miami
      St louis
      KC
      Philly
      Tampa
      Minnesota
      Dallas

I think there will be only 4 that open up, and Miami wants a big name, Wade has already coached in SD (didn't work), and the other two in our division are more or less rebuilding jobs. With a raise I think he would stick around for another season or two, given that it's a winning team and he has the players to run his system.

Yeah, I think that's right...but isn't the typical NFL protocol that if a higher position becomes available the coach in question is typically given permission by the team to discuss the position with the interested team? I mean that just if the hypothetical situation arose -- not that I'd in any way wish it to arise. Hell, I hope there's no interest by other teams... ;)

    Kubiak without Wade = 8-8
    Wade without Kubiak = 8-8

This is literally a match made in heaven. We wouldn't be 10-3 without Wade revamping the defense. We also wouldn't be 10-3 without Kubiak getting the running game going and coaching up Yates.

    Exactly.

If McNair, Kubes, and Wade don't all see this, I'd be amazed.

Pay the dude like a HC if that's what it takes. He has a chance to get his face on Houston's Sports Mount Rushmore.

This is how it was supposed to work when the Oilers brought in Buddy Ryan. Innovative offense, innovative defense.

There are two quotes that could apply:

"a man's got to know his limitations"
"in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence"

Wade's been a head coach and frankly the man has all the personality of white bread. He has money, he's in a "home" town, he's wining, he's older. He might want a raise, but I can't see him wanting to leave to be a head coach again. The succeess is the reward at his (my) age and the risk of failure and getting fired again doesn't seem worth the added ego boost of being the head man.

Defense is what he does, defense is what he is good at. Press conferences suck and what he is bad at.

You don't stop people from taking promotions, but like you said, if suitors come looking, no way McNair doesn't offer him a nice pay raise to keep him.

I heard McClain say it; it was idle speculation on his part. Nothing more. Pancakes (love it!) undoubtedly has his sources - but he can lock in on a story and not let it go sometimes and this might be one of those instances. Phillips is barely a year removed from the Cowboys completely imploding on his watch. I don't think a year of coaching up an already talented but lost unit is enough to wash that 0-7 taste of out owners' mouthes. He's a great coach but a hard sell. Heck, most of you didn't want him as a coordinator.

If he leaves good for him he is a underrated coach.

I'd hope he learned his lesson and replace him with a lot of experience.....

Without Wade . . . I would say Kubes was looking like a career OC
    not 'head coach' material
With WADE - Kubes is ELITE

Maybe Wade gets it in his head. . he needs a KUBES
and he will be an elite coach

    *shrug*

As stated - look at dallas this year
could you say they are truly better than before they quit?
