Since the conversation about bigs have included both the top FAs (like Nene, Chandler and Aaron Gray) and lower-tier guys (Dalembert, Biedrins), I thought it may be time to think about K-Hump again. The guy would be undersized at C at 6'9'' but he has put up fantasic rebounding numbers-- 10.7 rebs in just 27.9 mpg, his 32.2% DReb% was the 3rd highest among all players playng more than 800 minutes last season. As Kevin McHale and Morey have both noted, rebounding was a huge issue for the team's defense-- the Rockets actually did fine with stopping the initial shot, but allowed many 2nd chance opportunities. K-Hump can even block some shots (1.1 blks in the 27.9 mpg). Moreover, this guy has to be SUPER motivated after being publicly dumped by Kim Kardashian. Morey needs to make himself available as K-Hump's rebound date.
No desire for a 6-9 role player that clearly played above himself on a bad team in a contract year. There's no point in tossing even more role players into the overstuffed PF rotation.
He had one good year with better rebounding becaue lopez couldn't get anything. I watched him a lot withthe raptors, somebody is gonna overpay for him
Love the guy's defense and rebounding, but he's a text-book defensive Power Forward. He'd be a great compliment with a healthy Yao, but not what we need with Scola and Pat set to play a larger roll this year. Now if we could move some of our 4's for a stud Center or a stud SF, then i'd love to make a run at Humphries, as i think his best basketball is ahead of him, and he's built to be a hard-nosed playoff asset in the paint.
To be fair, other than rebounding, his per 36 numbers were basically in line, and in some cases lower than they otherwise had been throughout his career. His 12.9 points per 36 were below his average. I would attribute the jump in rebounding to being next to a bad rebounding center, but he still has always rebounded well per 36. He didn't clearly play above himself... he clearly finally got some more minutes. The question is why didn't he get more minutes previously? For one, it's possible he finally figured out what he was good at and what he isn't, and has realized he's good at enough of the intangibles that he doesn't have to be a scorer. His per 36 scoring was down, but his FG% was the highest of his career. So perhaps he played above himself from an efficiency perspective, but it is important to note that he did so by caring less about scoring. By having less of a me first attitude. Despite playing 70% more minutes, he only took 43% more shots. So it makes sense to be skeptical, given he was on the Nets, but it seems as much about playing time, and Kris finally learning how to not be a scoring focused somewhat selfish player, but focusing on rebounding, defense and scoring efficiently when necessary. Rockets clearly have no need for him. PPat gives you a lot of the same stuff.
No he wouldn't - no one in their right mind would call Humphries a 4/5 defensive stopper. We've got Patterson and Morris to take care of all the minutes behind Scola. We need help at the 5, and Humphries would be a sad joke there.
These proposals just get worse everyday, now this is like the 8th old thread re-started as if it's a good idea. This is not as bad as the one about Greg Oden but it's close. Guys, it's time to stop wasting thought about this. Daryl will pull off a trade or FA and we probably won't have any clue it was going to happen or was a possibility. Remember last year? No one saw brooks for dragic coming or shane for that dead body in Memphis.
how about this post player? Kris Humphries? I do believe he is a free agent. The guy can clog up the middle and provide solid defense. He will also come at a more affordable price. He is not a great scorer, but that's not what we need. If he is in fact a free agent, we have to make a run at this guy and as well as Samuel D. This gives us a solid defensive post position.
