Lin's parents are from Taiwan but his grandparents are from the mainland and he's said in interviews that he considers both Chinese and Taiwanese in ethnicity.

There is not just a single Taiwanese ethnicity. Sure there are minority groups but most of guys there are from Fujian, a province across the Strait if you really want to know. And actually you can be sure there are a lot more minorities in mainland. I give you an example, Meng Ke Bateer wo played little for the Spurs is a Mongolian who played for the Chinese National team. Uygurs, much like Turkish people are playing for the Chinese National team as well. It's not their ethnicity that is different, just the believe and their disliking of socialism that sets them apart, much like South and North Koreans. US are military allies with Republic of China but not the People's Republic of China.
Ethnicity is hard to fathom...for those who love to generalize..they often say: 'Ya, they look the same.'
Don't know why their people don't want to be Chinese because they hate Communists from the past but wow surprise. The current president is a friend of the mainland therefore connections are relatively good. A lot of Hong Kong and Macau people want no piece of Mainland either but they consider themselves Chinese. I don't see a difference. Both South Korean and North Koreans know they are Koreans that share the same script, language (different intonation/dialect) but they want to reunite together one day. This is not the case with alot of Taiwanese. I think it irks them to see that during the Olympic Games they are still named CHINESE TAIPEH and not Taiwan IMHO this is just politics and military although I admit there are a couple of minorities that do not speak Chinese much like Tibetans in China but they are minorities in Taiwan also PS: The movie and arts industry and the economy are both linked tightly so I guess Taiwan and Mainland China are closer than many want them to be Recommend one good movie about a totally different minority much like in Avatar or Dancing with Wolves http://www.seediqbalethemovie.com/eng/index.php

Lin's not the first Asian period. Even Bruce Lee who is the prototypical "Asian Man" was mixed raced. Being half-white doesn't keep keep the admissions office at Harvard where Lin went to school from imposing the Asian quota on you and giving you less financial aid than non-Asians. You're Asian. In America both Rex and and Lin are "Asian." So is Sanjay and Kumar. Asian is a sociologically and racially nonsensical statistical term but at least apply it consistently.

I just don't see him making the roster, unless there is trade. PG: Lowry / Flynn / Dragic / Lin SG: Martin / Lee / Williams/ Taylor SF: Budinger / Morris / Parsons PF: Scola / Patterson / Blakely C: Thabeet/ Hill / Smith / Samhan / Cousins We have 13 guaranteed contracts (once Morris and Parsons sign there contracts) and 15 roster spots, leaving 2 spots open. I'd rather fill the two remaining spots with center's then wasted on a 4th pg.
