We can't do anything until this deal goes through so we can clear capspace for Nene.

Nets max offer can be 4 years 60 million.

After this Gasol trade, we can offer Nene close to 4 years 67 million.

I'm willing to bet that in his 20 mins or so on the court, thabeet will change and blk more shots than nene in 30+ mins. Dalembert wouldve been cool 3 yrs ago to play next to yao like cate. but not now. I like nene, but he will be super, duper overpaid and the rockets will be scratching their heads in terms of what they would get for the money. All that physical talent and all you get is a few pops .

Great analysis of Nene's contribution on the court:

Why Nene Should Be in Demand
    By ROB MAHONEY

Nene with the Denver Nuggets in 2009.Free agency officially begins on Dec. 9, but the chase has already begun. There are no traditional superstars in the bunch, but the best relative talents will still land maximum or near-max contracts under the league’s new collective bargaining agreement. Here’s look at one of the terrific — if likely overpaid — candidates for such a deal.

What makes an N.B.A. star? The lines that define basketball’s prestige classification aren’t so bright these days, as players rise to stardom in various ways.

No case may be more interesting than that of Nene: an elite big man who has somehow never been among his team’s focal points. He’s had a bizarre career, but is on the verge of getting a gigantic contract offer from a team looking to shore up its back line. Nene may never quite live up to his inevitably bloated contract figure, but he’s nonetheless a stellar acquisition for any team willing to make the necessary investment.

Nene hasn’t received the touches or shot attempts of a star player, but he remains incredibly effective by maximizing his opportunities.

For Nene, it starts with the low block. He’s not only one of a few bigs in the league with genuine back-to-the-basket skills, but Nene converts post-up opportunities at a higher rate than a large majority of his peers. That efficiency extends into the pick-and-roll game, where Nene’s ample foot speed, quick leaping, and powerful finishing make him a valuable weapon. The same is true of his performance on the offensive glass, where Nene was able to capitalize on offensive rebounds at an impressive rate (1.37 points per possession, according to Synergy Sports Technology, one of the better marks in the league).

For good measure, Nene rounds out his highly efficient game with capable spot-up shooting and willing cuts to the basket; 24.9 percent of Nene’s used possessions last season came via off-ball cuts, and the Nuggets benefited greatly from the points directly and indirectly generated as a result of Nene’s movement.
Nene is skilled, but what sets him apart is his patience. He knows when to shoot and when to move the ball, a discipline that many have confused with complacency. Admittedly, that sometimes works to his disadvantage; Nene’s pursuit of an optimal possession can prevent him from powering his way into a good shot or attacking his opponent as often as he should, but it’s hard to those points with a guy merely making the right play.

Possession usage and efficiency have an inherently negative relationship, and there is a legitimate concern over how an increased role would affect Nene’s performance. This isn’t true because of any specific warning sign, but simply due to the fact that we’ve never actually seen Nene as a high-usage member of a rotation. In the 2010-11 season, Nene used just 18.8 percent of the Nuggets’ possessions while he was on the floor — a mark that was among the highest in his career. To put that in perspective: Nene’s usage rate fell right in line with that of Earl Barron, Spencer Hawes and Chris Wilcox.

Nene may have the offensive skill set of a near-max player, but his possession usage thus far has better resembled that of a fourth or fifth offensive option.

Considering the substantial financial investment that Nene will demand, that is slightly troublesome. Production shouldn’t be an issue, but will Nene be able to maintain some semblance of his fantastic efficiency in a more pivotal role?

For the majority of the 2010-11 season, Denver’s offense was monopolized by Carmelo Anthony. But when Nene finally did get the ball, he was still eager to give it up any teammate in superior scoring position. Nene’s entire game is understated, but his willingness and ability to pass are particularly so; he’s a tremendous set-up man out of the high post, and one of the few bigs in the league with proven play-making chops.

Nene legitimately makes his teammates better, whether by hitting them with a bullet pass, shading them on defense, or clearing up the team’s spacing with a well-timed slash through the paint. For all of his strengths as an offensive player, Nene does an equally impressive job hedging on pick-and-rolls and rotating into position to contest shots.

The team that lands Nene will get a player with a complete repertoire; he simply needs the shaping brought on by a more demanding role.

Primary candidates for Nene’s services (via Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports): Houston, Denver, Indiana, New Jersey, and Golden State.

Posted this in the other thread:

So here is what I know from the NeNe's fam (wife's side)

If you've read my other posts, I have been friends with this family for awhile:

-Indiana is out; Denver is not upping its offer right now.
-NeNe is waiting to see if Dwight gets out of Orlando to NJ to team up with him.

We are right there to sign NeNe, when and if the Pau trade goes through

***We have offered the same amount of money that NJ has.

This leads me to think the Pau trade will go through.

Dwight Howard is the x-factor at this point.

I have one other tidbit, but I need to wait.

Family is out at the shooting range...waiting on the phones..

Flame me if you want, but again, I just like to contribute to my loyal rockets fans. :)

Maybe Bima can help me out here, but doesn't NJ need its capspace for a D12 trade? I don't think that they can get Nene and Dwight.

If they S&T Lopez they could, right? Isn't he extension eligible? But I am not a capologist like Bima or Nike...

Well first off they have no pieces, like filler pieces to match salary. If the Howard trade goes first, they move Lopez + picks to Orlando for Dwight, then boom no more cap space.

If they sign Nene first, then theres no cap space and the original Lopez deal wont be eligible.

I don't think Orlando is just going to take back whatever.

All #Nets free-agent activity will be on hold until the Howard matter is settled. Don't think they can sign Nene and get Howard.

Nene report: He'll end up w/either Nuggets, Nets or Rockets. But consistent word on this is that Dwight/Marc Gasol sagas must play out first

Hearing Denver still confident of finding way to re-sign him. Rockets obviously trying to steal M. Gasol first but still covet Nene. AND: Nets have obviously been pushing hard to complete trade for Dwight, but if DH12 winds up with Lakers instead then NJN surely turn to Brazil

Scola AND Martin? I hope not!

With him waiting on Dwight or Gasol, it's pretty clear that he has no intention of playing the center position.

Yups. Pau Gasol is a proven All-Star & 2 times NBA champion who can produce 20+ppg 10+rpg 3+apg 2bpg without Kobe.

Nene was just a complement in the paint. An expensive one, sure because big men are a luxury in today's league.

But noway Nene is the pivotal player that can lead the franchise and the team.

Nene+Marc is NOWHERE near a Pau+ Nene or Marc. They'd need more good expensive players around them.

I'm all for signing nene but if it's gonna cost both those guys, unless we get a Gasol to go with him, then I'd rather just sign Daly and run with what we have.

Nuggets awaiting word from Nene, who appears to be down to NJ and Denver. Rockets could jump back in if they don't get M.Gasol.
