Odom requested a trade Friday, feeling unwanted. Lakers didn't want disgruntled Odom at his salary.

I'm told there's no way Lakers are trading Bynum and Gasol for Dwight Howard.

With 2 years and almost 24 million dollars of a contract left Kevin Martin has plenty of time to get over it.

AGREED, I don't understand what the big deal is about Bosh; seems like the Halo effect from Wade & Bron-Bron.

aelliott, I think the difference is, none of those cases were the direct result of the league meddling. We are not talking about suing the Lakers for pulling out at the twelve hour. We are talking about the disapproval of a first deal with no rule violations, and the delayed decision in the second attempt.

Anyway, I guess MadMax was right. It's just not practical suing your own league.

CP looking to join Clippers since NYK and Lakers look unlikely. Clips and Hornets talking trade.

Hornets asking for E Gordon, Kaman, Bledsoe, Aminu and 2 1st round picks, sources say

Deal w/LAL & HOU enables league-owned Hornets to stay competitive now. Deal w/Clippers is more along lines of what NBA wants: Youth/picks

LAC willing to add Gordon 2 deal if Paul commits 2 "opt-in" to the final year of his deal, which would assure LAC of having him next 2 yrs

Both cases are the team's owners changing their mind at the last minute. The league owns the Hornets and they killed the deal as owner of the Hornets. They are well within their rights to do that. A team owner can refuse to make a deal for whatever reason they like and they can take as long as they like to make up their mind. They didn't need a rules violation since they were acting in their role as owners of the Hornets.

That's fine as long as the "owner" of the Hornets doesn't approve any other deal that involves Paul leaving the Hornets. If they do then they're favoring one team over another. This is why Paul can't be traded this year. Stern & Co. have basically sentenced him to be in NO this year.

In a related story DFish was downgraded to ball boy. Kobe is livid.

[rquoter]In addition to Rockets' top scorers Kevin Martin and Luis Scola, the Hornets wanted the Rockets to replace Goran Dragic in the deal with starting point guard Kyle Lowry, to add one of the team's top young prospects and to add a pick to the Knicks' first-round pick they had already offered, according to a person familiar with the talks.

That was a non-starter for the Rockets, but the deal died soon after, anyway. The time lost, however, also cost the Rockets several moves planned based on either landing Pau Gasol or knowing they could not. Most obvious was the hope to sign Nene using the added cap space from the deal and the promise to play with the seven-foot center.

So the league's role is to completely screw one team (Houston) in favor of two other teams (Lakers, Hornets)?
