No way, Shaub has been in the system too long and is making starter money. Yates will take Leinart's spot for sure and he will be the backup for the next few years taking over when Shaub's done.

Schaub is still under contract for another year... and a lot can happen in that time to sway this argument one way or the other.

Mario becomes a big wild card though... this defense is obviously capable right now without him, but one injury to Barwin or Reed would make things very scary.

No longer scared of injury. Dobbins/Nading. Next man up.

True... but if they let Mario walk, they likely sign another LB/DE or get one in the draft.

We can draft a backup OLB in the 2nd or 3rd round and fill that position. I'm liking using some of Mario's money to sign a free agent WR like Dwayne Bowe.

You only trade Yates if some team wants to overpay for him (at least a 1st rounder).

He's here as backup at least for next season (assuming Schaub recovers back to form).

No way they trade Yates or Schaub. I also think they'll resign Mario next year if he'll accept a lower offer. Otherwise happy trails to him. Wade has shown us that you can literally plug anyone into his system.

You don't lose a starting job due to injury. Unless your Drew Bleadsow. With a healthy Shaub, we would be Super Bowl contenders. That being said, Yaters will be the starter in 2 years.

back to what form.. getting sacked on that 3rd & 15, then throwing a pick on 4th down..

please, yates did on this one single drive what matt schuab has NEVER done.. take a team down field to win the game, without andre johnson there to bail out our QB..

Depends. Right now, there could be one.

But if Yates helps us win in the playoffs, even just a little bit, there may not be any controversy at all. It'd be a Bledsoe/Brady situation.

Not a fan of using #1 WR money to get a guy who would be our #2 WR. Also don't think Bowe would be up for playing obvious second fiddle... hurts chances for pro bowl appearances and future contract incentives.

    I'd rather just re-sign Mario.

If we can sign him for about $10 million I would be cool with that, but we shouldn't franchise him at $18 million or whatever it would be.

Moot point right now, but long term, here's the question - would Schaub have been able to score on that last drive?

He had a similar situation in Oakland and threw an INT in the endzon.

I think what distinguishes Yates from Schaub is his ability to scramble. That 3rd and 15 run for a first down would have been thrown away by Schaub (leading to 4th and 15). Also that 3rd and four QB run to the outside to pick up the first down was huge.

I think Schaub is still the a better QB when healthy, but only because of his experience. Yates has shown that he has a lot to learn (should have thrown it away more, and a lot of his balls were high), but he has also shown a lot of intangibles and an ability to play when the pressure is on. He will only get better.
