Do you think signing Marc Gasol to 4-years, $55M is a good deal for the Rockets?

So does this mean the Grizzlies have 3 max players? How are they affording this?

Still gotta say f u stern. What if the plan was to get Marc and pau on the same team. pau didn't want to come here but might feel differently if his brother was here. Plus us imagine they have good chemistry.

Nene has to be in the loop...

You gotta think that Morey has been in constant contact with Nene throughout this entire process. I'm sure the first plan was to pair him with Pau and then next with Marc but now I think they will be sending Thabeet on his way and sign Nene to a deal. Nene could have accepted the Nets deal a couple days ago but I think he wants to play here and is waiting to see how things play out.

    Why?

This seems strange. Why make an offer that you know is less than what the home team has already offered? Seems like we're not getting the whole story. Maybe a sign and trade really is in the works, as Gasol may just want out of Memphis.

brooks, landry, scola, lowry, martin, artest, lee = all great moves.

the rockets didn't give up anything to get artest. he acted like a moron and les wanted him gone. the rockets didn't give up much for martin, he doesn't fit with a rebuilding team so we will see if we can get young talent in return. ariza was traded for lee, definite upgrade both on the books and on the court.

any mistake he might have made he corrects right away. he has a higher than most success rate in the draft. he's proven that he can find steals both late in the draft and in trade. he won't lose players with nothing in return, got good value for brooks and shane when both sides knew they would part ways this summer.

people are upset that he can't land a superstar? it's not like every moron can just land a superstar. you have to draft them, or get VERY lucky in free agency, or get even luckier in trade. Les won't let the team get bad enough to draft one so DM must make trade offers and contract offers. whether or not the other side accepts is not up to him.

honestly i blame les. we should've blown it up a couple of years ago. gotten cap space and picks for tmac and yao. traded off any long term contracts and hit the lotto.

your simple minds dont get it sign- and- trade means the grizzlies no they cant match so they want something out of the deal ,listen closely now (waiving thabeet gives us his cap room)we still pay him but it doesnt count against the cap

Theyre not really "max" deals, but theyre not far off.

The Griz can afford them (for now) because the rest of their team is on rookie contracts.

In fact, as I've mentioned before, Memphis has purposely traded away Thabeet (to the Rockets last February) and Mayo (now) just so they could maintain the flexibility to pay Gasol.

And before you blame Morey for helping Memphis by taking Thabeet off their hands, just realize that there were other teams willing to do that and that nothing Morey could have done would have prevented this.

Frankly, I think it will smell of desperation if this offer sheet is actually extended and signed. That is, unless Marc is trying to force his way out of town.

    Repost from another thread? :eek::eek:

Morey has done a great job considering what he has had to work with and what he inherited.

that's my point. If you need to rebuild, do it the proper way. For Morey it seems like the proper way is to sign bunch of role of players on the cheap and flip them for some other role players in the hopes of finding a superstar. That's not how rebuilding process works. That's like putting a bandaid on a pimple. It just hides it in the surface.

Also my point was that knowing that Yao got injured and would miss the season. The team should have been blown up. That injury documented the Yao era. Morey (and company) were really hopeful for Yao to come back one last time. That was a mistake. We lost a year hoping for Yao to be able to come back but instead he goes down again.

I'm just mad that we have been stuck in mediocrity since the playoff season that went to game 7 against the Lakers. We are not good enough to be in the playoffs, but we are not good enough to be in the lottery.

Gonna wait for more info on this...Morey wouldn't sign Gasol to an offer sheet if he knew Memphis would match. Would be a waste.
