Rockets should overpay to make sure the Grizzlies won't match. Marc is better than Pau defensively, and younger.
If they give him the max they'll turn into the Miami Heat in terms of players and staying under the tax.
Bima's last tweet makes it seem like Memphis was already preppared to pay max. I wouldnt be surprised if they already were expecting this. I think they would even go as far as to amnesty Rudy Gay to sign Gasol. Thats how important their front office views Gasol. Gasol has to communicate with the front office that he wants to go to Houston or else. Even then, they still hold the cards here. Still, no harm no foul by Morey offering.
Marc is a very skilled and improving young center with legit size. He's worth maybe $10M a year but you have to over pay to get him. centers are hard to find (we should know) and the market is very competitive for them. this contract is not a bad deal at all. amnesty thabeet, S&T marc for the knicks pick. or S&T marc for thabeet and the knicks pick while saving the amnesty.
how do ppl still not understand this? don't they not teach supply and demand in high school? basically, if you're a shot blocking 7-footer, you're guaranteed a max contract.
I didn't consider Zach Randalph last year just looking at his stats, thats a good point. I still just don't see him as a max player but like you said, I want an upgrade in Houston, mediocrity has overstayed his welcome.
Gasol stepped up his game in the playoffs this year. Plus if we get him, we fill in a GIANT piece of the puzzle.
I doubt Memphis would want to take on Scola's salary when they already have ZBo locked up to play the PF position. if anything it will be KMart
Again, Memphis values Gasol > Gay. If its one of the other I think they trade Gay or Amnesty to match Gasol's salary.
Remember people. By MAX offer they mean based off Marc's year in league MAX. $12 million for a young stud Center is a bargain and if Memphis chooses not to match it is based on their ownership being cheap. Let's hope so.
Morey has spoken of the strategy of Restricted Free Agents before. He knows that there is definite gamesmanship in trying to get other teams RFAs to sign offer sheets for slightly more than the other team wants to pay, and with posturing strength to sign your own RFAs for slightly less than you were willing to pay.
Well just two seasons ago he averaged 14/9 in 69 games playing 35mpg, and his career average is closer to 12/8. Not to mention that playing next to Z-Bo will take away from your touches quite a bit.
I like this front line. No need to clear more space and offer max dollars to Nene...Scola is a lot better offensively and his defense won't be as big of a problem playing next to Marc. Ship disgruntled Martin out for a defensively stronger wing and we're back in business!
