Wow, as much as we have suffered, the hits just keep coming for portland http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7...arcus-aldridge-miss-two-weeks-heart-procedure
Pace maker recovery time is like 1 day now. Not sure if that's what it is but I do know those small types of procedures have small recovery times.
Blazers would be fools for allowing him to take part in on court activities. He needs at least a month to recuperate.
Wow....I feel for portland....after we beat them in the 2009 playoffs it looked like they had a bright future...Oden looked to be capable of making a comeback...roy looked like a top 5 player and Aldridge looked unguardable....Not to mention their other young players that showed promise (batum, Rudy, etc) Just ****ty how injuries can derail a franchise.
Not much to go on in the article, but I had the same condition and the same surgery. It has a pretty high success rate, but in my case took 3 tries. They don't cut your chest open or anything, but insert a catheter (small wire) through your groin and up into your heart. On my third procedure, they went both through my groin and through my neck. I was/am in excellent physical condition. 16 days after my last procedure (called radiofrequency catheter ablation) I ran a 1:34 half marathon. He should be fine. Edit: Just to clarify - there is no pacemaker involved. If you think of your heart as a pump with an electrical system, in this case you have an extra electrical pathway that causes a rapid heart beat. They use radiofrequency waves to burn off the extra electrical pathway - in essence rewire the pump. Pretty cool stuff.
Roy is done, Oden is done for the season again, and LA is out for two weeks. It's official: The Frailblazers are the most unlucky team in NBA history.
interesting. Its a condition in which the heart has extra conduction fibers from the atria and ventricle and thus causes arrythmias. The treatment is by laser i believe to destroy this extra tissue. Havent really seen a pt with this but just read about it. Hope he does ok. I thought houston had a problem with health, we look like ironmen compared to the trailblazers as of late
I lol'd hard. But this is sad. I think LMA was ready to become the third best PF in the league after Dirk and Pau this year. He's complete. Rebounds, defends, dunks, shoots, post moves.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Blazers interim general manager Chad Buchanan confirms Portland has signed Kurt Thomas for two seasons</p>— Jason Quick (@jwquick) <a href="https://twitter.com/jwquick/status/145929169933578240" data-datetime="2011-12-11T18:13:20+00:00">December 11, 2011</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> ... Wait, what? 39-year-old Kurt Thomas? Multi-year deal? What?
Portland ugh! They seriously need to get these dude's on AARP or Humana. This should be mandatory once signing a contract with the blazers.
He's had WPW syndrome for a long time now and I wonder how the hell he was able to play with that for such a long time. It's about time they are doing something. They are preforming a cardiac ablation and not cracking his chest open. Should be a real quick recovery.
