I don't understand why we couldn't have added Dallas to this deal and they got odom and sent the pick to the Hornets. And then the hornets could have sent scola to Indiana for a pick and Posey. That would have been 2 extra first rounders for New Orleans. I'm sure Indiana would do that. Anyone have a good answer?
Nene is a FA so ultimately it comes down to where he wants to play. I don't know why he couldn't play with Howard. Its not like Nene is planted on the lower book the whole game. If Nene signs with NJ then they can't flip him in a deal unless they are willing to wait a while.
I am not a lawyer either but I'd have to think that they are ok legally. David Stearn himself is a lawyer, he has an army of lawyers on staff and he's running a multi-billion dollar business. I don't think that the league would have even entertained the idea of buying the Hornets if they were opening themselves up for legal action. MLB is also operating the Dodgers so it seems unlikely to me that two different major league sports would do something like that if it wasn't legal. But again...I'm not a lawyer.
I would be surprised if Nene signs a contract anywhere that doesn't give him some sort of control over where he would get traded to. Nene wants to play with good teammates and compete for championships. It's obvious by how he has waited out his free agency that he was trying to pair up with Dwight or Pau. Ideally, he wants to play as the PF alongside Dwight.
once you stop overlooking the fact that the HORNETS were getting 2 bloated old player contracts and not enough young tallent(lakers refused to give up young players and rockets had to give up to much ) , and the fact that the nba owns the hornets, you will understand
Put legal analysis aside...practically speaking, it's not good business to sue the very league that provides your existence. I recognize there are lots of folks who are upset. But teams shouldn't be suing their own leagues.
Ok, so how is that any different than any other time an owner has seemed to agree to a deal and then gotten cold feet and backed out at the last minute? The Rockets had a deal done to acquire Damon Stoudamire from Toronto when he was coming off of his rookie contract. The deal was done and ESPN even reported it with their "Stoudamire a Rocket Man" headline. Portland came in at the last minute and made a better offer and Toronto backed out of the Houston deal. If a team puts other plans on hold while they are negotiating a deal, then that's a chance you take. If the deal would had been dead from day 1 then could we have signed Nene? If so then we can still sign him now, he's still available. What FA opportunity did we lose? Chandler got more money than we were willing to pay him.
Agreed, that's why Dwight in NJ makes the most sense. Howard in LA with only Kobe and them capped out with no trade assests doesn't sound appealing.
^^^^ This Goodell may be a pansy. But atleast he's not screwing the Texans over like MLB (Bud) NBA (Satan Stern) The NFL just has gone to the top of my list of sports leagues. (As if they weren't already) To think the Mavs (Cubans whining) ended up with Odom, the Lakers will probably end up with Howard, and the Rockets end up with nothing but alot of lost sleep over the past few days. I love the Rockets. But fans should boycott the games this yr to send a message to Davey Stern. Just as they should for the Astros to send a message to Selig. To me, not having a franchise is better than letting Stern/Selig ram their power down Houston fans thoats and telling the fans that they will take their medicine and like it.

Can you cite such cases please? Stoudamire deal is not such a case. We didn't get screwed by the GM we negotiated with. The other GM didn't get a better last minute offer. The other GM also consulted with his "owner"(NBA office) during the dealings. So no, this is not the same. This would be like Morey making a trade, declares it publically, and Les coming and vetoes it. Owners don't do this. Because they would lose credibility and lessen the chance of future trades with other teams. Stern doesn't have this problem.
Yes Toronto did get a better offer from Portland. That is why Torn to backed out when the deal was done. The trade was reported and Portland thought Houston was getting a great deal so they jumped in and topped it. Your assertion that owners could lose credibility may be true but it is not illegal to lose credibility. That doesn't give you grounds for a lawsuit which is the point that we are discussing, right?
