What did it cost us!? Morey talked with Demps for MONTHS prior to the season on the trade. They worked out the premises of the trade for a long time. Everything was kept a secret until they finished trade was sent to the league for approval. Everything was relayed to the commissioner office even while the trade was still in the works. Stern could've rejected this stuff way before any of us even knew it existed. It could've been one of hundreds if not thousands of trade proposals team give to each other that eventually get rejected. All Stern had to do was give word on what Demps could not do(i.e. add salary) and which teams he can't trade CP3 to(i.e. Lakers). And the deal would've been dead from the get go. Instead we had a trade that was basically worked out, likely Morey had talked to Fegan about Nene joining Gasol here following the trade. And plans to build the team starting with their new twin towers. If it was dead from the start, the Rockets might've pursued other avenues perhaps before even the start of offseason. They might've though more about keeping Hayes. They wouldn't have to deal with KMart and Scola being awkward at camp. They could've given another FA an offer to sign here. I don't know. Something besides this. ANYTHING besides this.
Funny how LA needed to get a first rounder for the deal and now that the deal is off they got that from Dallas for Odom.
I'm hoping that the deal re-surfaces even though I know it's doubtful. LA sends the 2 First rounders to Hornets in place of Odom with the original frame work of the first deal. It would be quite ironic because Cuban didn't want to pay for the Hornets extra salary well now he is paying for Odom on his own.
Man, just woke up and just saw the deal fell apart. If anything calls for a Morey statement or press conference, it is this.
I figured he would call a conference too.. seems like there is a lot to explain, maybe not on his behalf but....
Stern will probably fine anybody who criticizes his decision to block the deal which is why everyone seems silent so far. The fans have to demand for his resignation.
Misleading thread title. Lock this thread up, just a reminder of wasted time and emotionally energy. I can't tell you how unproductive my last couple of work days have been. There is an dent on my phone where the refresh button is displayed.
I wake up and this deal is dead? wtf??? My hatred for the NBA just grows and grows by the day. I'm glad the NFL is on today
For what little it's worth, basketball is entertainment, and for a weekend without any good college football this thread has been entertaining. I think the Players Association will fill a suit Monday, and I think Stern will eventually fall over this because it was not done by league rule but by capriciousness of the Commissioner. It has caused irreparable harm to the teams involved when the leauge office should have been fully aware during the process and should have made any objections known before the deal was made public. After all, NO is either Stern's team and he were making the decisions or Demps team and the league was not making the decision.
stern sucks, but we're talking about rockets management here brohemes. Never get your hopes up. The NBA lockout was a real eye opener, the rockets front office makes moves they end up turning into new moves that totally contradict the premise of the initial trade. My sig pretty much says it all.
Is the NBA off its rocker? It looks like David Stern just physically cancelled one trade to allow another (Odom to Dallas). I've never seen such dirty dealing in the front office as long as I've followed sports. It really is like the WWF. Fill me in when the appropriate parties begin their lawsuit; I hope they've been keeping good records of all their talks with Stern and the NBA league front office. Regardless of how the Rockets would have looked before or after or whatever, this is illegal.
The Lakers don't need to send Odom for this deal to work. Pau to HOU, Martin & Scola to NO, and Paul to LA would work under the CBA. The owners were pissed about LA dumping salary as much as they were about them getting Paul. This trade could come back today. The cancellation could be a ruse, because LA knows that nobody will beat Scola, Martin, and two first round picks for Paul.
