I hope nothing is seriously wrong with his heart.

Pace maker recovery time is like 1 day now.

Not sure if that's what it is but I do know those small types of procedures have small recovery times.

Blazers would be fools for allowing him to take part in on court activities.

He needs at least a month to recuperate.

Wow....I feel for portland....after we beat them in the 2009 playoffs it looked like they had a bright future...Oden looked to be capable of making a comeback...roy looked like a top 5 player and Aldridge looked unguardable....Not to mention their other young players that showed promise (batum, Rudy, etc)

Just ****ty how injuries can derail a franchise.

Well, you can leave the hospital after a day, but that's not the total recovery time.

Not much to go on in the article, but I had the same condition and the same surgery. It has a pretty high success rate, but in my case took 3 tries.

They don't cut your chest open or anything, but insert a catheter (small wire) through your groin  and up into your heart. On my third procedure, they went both through my groin and through my neck.

I was/am in excellent physical condition. 16 days after my last procedure (called radiofrequency catheter ablation) I ran a 1:34 half marathon. He should be fine.

Edit: Just to clarify - there is no pacemaker involved. If you think of your heart as a pump with an electrical system, in this case you have an extra electrical pathway that causes a rapid heart beat. They use radiofrequency waves to burn off the extra electrical pathway - in essence rewire the pump. Pretty cool stuff.

Roy is done, Oden is done for the season again, and LA is out for two weeks. It's official: The Frailblazers are the most unlucky team in NBA history.

This team went from being the Jailblazers to a hospital ward.

interesting. Its a condition in which the heart has extra conduction fibers from the atria and ventricle and thus causes arrythmias. The treatment is by laser i believe to destroy this extra tissue. Havent really seen a pt with this but just read about it. Hope he does ok. I thought houston had a problem with health, we look like ironmen compared to the trailblazers as of late

No, "Tracy McGrady would never have to worry about heart surgery" posts yet?

    I lol'd hard.

But this is sad. I think LMA was ready to become the third best PF in the league after Dirk and Pau this year. He's complete. Rebounds, defends, dunks, shoots, post moves.

... Wait, what? 39-year-old Kurt Thomas? Multi-year deal?

    What?

Perhaps the second year is a team option or some partial guarantee.

Portland ugh! They seriously need to get these dude's on AARP or Humana. This should be mandatory once signing a contract with the blazers.

He's had WPW syndrome for a long time now and I wonder how the hell he was able to play with that for such a long time. It's about time they are doing something.

They are preforming a cardiac ablation and not cracking his chest open. Should be a real quick recovery.
