The Pau trade was one that had the "win-now" mentality, is the direction of the team just all of a sudden going to change? I doubt it, especially if we go out and overpay for someone like Dalembert which is probably going to happen now. Also, in order for us to trade Martin or Scola to a team that can give us picks that are worth a damn the team not only has to suck, they also have to want to take on their big contracts, something bad teams typically don't want to do if they are rebuilding. The Clippers had to GIVE an unprotected 1st round pick to the Cavs just so they would take on Baron Davis's contract.
Ridiculous, this move falling through will keeps mediocre even longer. What part of "the owner will not tank" do you not understand. All this means we will sit around and wait for the next similar style deal to happen. Celebrating this happening is extremely ignorant.
Well **** it then. I hope all the young guys get real minutes. If Martin bithches then salary dump him or what have you.
There's just a certain breed of sports fan that gets overly excited over potential and young, unproven players, without fully comprehending how few of those guys actually pan out. You see it in baseball, with fans that get obsessed with prospects, then are shocked when they fail at the big league level. You see it in football, with fans clamoring for the rookie QB who clearly isn't ready. And you see it here.
They have to dump a few guys, they have too many to play the young guys much. You can still play Scola, Hill, Thabeet and Patterson in a 4 man rotation at PF and C. But at SG/SF we have too many....KMart, Lee, CBud, Twill, Morris, probably should only be 3 here on a regular basis with the 4th getting spot duty. At PG we also have too many, Lowry, Flynn, Dragic.....one needs to go.... DD
My genuine sentiments? **** Stern, and frankly, **** everyone here who posted with approval about this thread or the support of full throated tanking. I'm out.
It's so rough that we got f**ked twice by Stern. I would not be surprised if Stern coerced LA into pulling out of the deal to allow him to save face. "They" pulled the deal off the table so CP3 and the Rockets can't sue.
Forgive us idiots that can recognize that tanking can work if mgmt knows how to draft properly. I definately trust Morey to draft the right player. Recent developments have shown me not to trust him to trade for folks, but I do think he can work magic with a top pick. Back to the topic....thank you Stern for stopping us from giving up a boatload for a mentally weak mangina.
It can work. It has a very, very high likelihood of not working, even if you do you due diligence prior to drafting. If you trust Morey to draft the right player (a skill that no GM in the history of basketball has ever mastered), why wouldn't you trust his plan re: acquiring Gasol & Nene?
some people just have a tough time facing the reality that we need to tank. Lol, I mean do you want your own Derrick Rose? Blake Griffin? This is the only way we will get one.
How many post-Jordan lottery picks did the Bulls need to use before getting Rose? How many busts have the Clippers taken in the first round in the last 20+ years? More pertinently, how long are you willing to wait?
And how many championships did Yao Ming deliver? How many would we have now if we had used that pick on Jay Williams, Caron Butler, Amare Stoudemire, or Nene? Just suck until a once-in-a-generation player arrives gift wrapped via the draft? That's your solution?
