I'd take it but I'm also not sure how well they mesh. I think they both operate best out of the high post, so essentially one would be at a disadvantage by having to play under the basket while the other is away from it.

It's better than nothing though. But I'm unsure.

Bill Ingram is suposed to write about the Rox at Hoopsworld;so I asked him this same question 2 day ago on fasebook, and this is what he wrote back.....Bill Ingram It will cost Houston cap space in the long run . . .and no, Marc will sign in Memphis. Rockets will overpay Dalembert, who is 35 pound over weight, and miss the playoffs again. :((.

The Rockets can't make Memphis pay big anyway. Marc's max salary can't start at higher than $12ish mil. And there's no way Memphis doesn't match that. In addition, that money is locked as long as Memphis doesn't make its decision. So the Rockets can't pursue anyone else as long as Memphis sit on their asses for two weeks(?? if it were the old cba) while other free agents sign elsewhere.

Unless it's known that Memphis won't match, I don't see the Rockets even bothering with an offer.

Can Marc give Memphis an ultimatum? Can he say "let me go to Houston or else I'll accept your qualifying offer and bail this summer"?

I don`t understand why it is so silent around Marc. With all this crazyness around Nene and Chandler, lots of teams should be interested. Yet no team just goes out and offer a contract or at least publicly say that they would like to sign him. It´s like the teams forgot about him, because Memphis can match.

Oh and I really hope the Rockets do the impossible and get him - I don`t care if they have to offer him the max to do it.

Heisley about Marc a few weeks ago: " I can't put a gun to Gasol's head an make him re-sign. He's got his own options. The press makes it sound like it's the owner making the decision. All I can say is nobody has a greater appreciation for him than the management of the Grizzlies. We showed that interest early and now he's one of the best centers in the NBA. I understand he wants to get paid. And I think he should get paid. We're going to match what anybody else offers. ... He's going to get double figures starting out. It's just a matter of where he wants to be.

I'd take Marc over Nene in a heartbeat.... THAT would make all this worth while... Nene...not so much... imo

Because it locks all your money for 3 days (used to be 7 in old CBA), meaning while you wait for them to match during those 3 days all the other good options are gone. Then, they match at the last minute and you are left overpaying for Kwame Brown.

    This.

I've stated several times that I prefer Marc over Nene. But at the end of the day (especially given the lack of headlines over the matter), I think everybody is operating under the assumption that Memphis will match regardless.

Hard to play poker if you're convinced your opponent isn't bluffing.
