AB was a better scorer at that time but Lowry was still better in every other category. Lowry is a true point guard while AB is merely an undersized shooting guard who has to shoot well to be effective. Lowry's improved shooting shouldn't be that surprising as it is the easiest thing to improve in the NBA and Lowry has a great work ethic. Your reliance on superficial offensive numbers and lack of vision is what undermines your argument.

A national story? LOL. Tim Tebow is a "national story" in the NFL - would you rather him as your QB than, say, the quieter Drew Brees? Carmelo was a national story and "hyped" because he was the most publicly available NBA star and his obvious destination was New York. Yes, Carmelo is one of the best scorers in the game. Unfortunately for him, there's a lot more to the game than scoring.
