Agreed. Three or four days ago, I was certain he was gone. Now I'm not so sure. It wouldn't surprise me if he and his agent's flirtations with every team with an opening hurt him in the eyes of many making the decisions.

I won't hold it against him if he left, its just going to be interesting to see how he handles it. Everyone liked how classy he was by staying with OU until after the bowl game was over, but if he bails early then it will show how classy he really is- only being loyal to "big-time" programs. I hope this isnt the case.

UH should hire Chad Morris as its next head coach. Great Texas High School football head coach and great success as an OC at Tulsa and Clemson.

LeVine taking over in the interim. Will be interesting to see who stays. Also curious about the $$$.

Nobody's recruits are "locked in" until signing day, in Feb.

Too bad leach took the wash state job. Would have been a good fit with the same type of offense

He is a good coach by I think if he you hire him you risk losing him next year to Texas Tech if Tuberville has another bad year.

You run that risk with everybody, it seems. Of course, it would mean that Dykes had a really successful year here. Which, based on the amount of seniors we have leaving, isn't likely.

According to the presser, A&M didn't offer Sumlin until Saturday morning and he accepted without asking UH to counter. Fans may be pissed, but UH said Sumlin knew exactly what could be done for him here...in other words, asking for a counter that is unrealistic would be a waste of time for both parties.

The man left the program in better shape. While Briles won a championship, Sumlin took the program to a national stage.

Whoever the next guy is, the bar has been set high.

I think the internal candidates are just as good if not better. This is a 12-1 staff not a 1-11.

I'm a little ticked he didn't even entertain a counter-offer from UH, but I guess that's what happens Byrne whips out the Aggie state-funded credit card. It doesn't look like any staff are leaving, which is good, and all the recruits have responded positively as well. I'm not sold on Levine and I hope we name a new head coach before the bowl game since it obviously won't be Phillips. Morris, Dykes, or whoever...

The reason I'm pro internal is because a new guy usually brings his staff. There is nothing broke with the football program. JP or TL can improve the head coaching position, hold the fort with recruits, are liked by the current players, and can retain a few assistants who don't go with Sumlin.

I think JP is out of the discussion since he wasnt named interim.

Sumlin's clever plan: don't play any quality opponents until you are forced to (e.g., the conference championship game or a bowl game). Voila! Perception that the team is a national contender!
