You are right that it does not make the Rockets contenders. You gotta have tent poles to put up a tent. Gasol is just a tent pole.
People shouldn't look at it in "we are trading away our 2 best players", because our team with those 2 as our best players have equaled zero playoff appearances the past couple of seasons. We aren't blowing up a winner. If this goes down, I'm excited to see what other pieces we get because this squad pre-trade, is mediocre with ZERO size.
hey welcome to the forum man... post in the threads that already discuss this please... there is a record breaking thread taking place right now. Keep posting and again, just letting you know this early on because people don't like redundant threads.
Listen, our new coach does not want to be taller than every one of his players. He said this and I agree.
Nets have had the same $64 mil/yr offer on the table for days now, if he was wrapped up he would have accepted it already. I think he is waiting to see what happens with the Rockets and keeping the Nets as his backup plan.
Tweet from Hollinger a few minutes after my previous post: John Hollinger (@johnhollinger) 12/10/11 1:29 PM Would seem to me Nene is waiting on this Pau trade. Rockets could go 4-64 or thereabouts if they wanted to.
Really. Rockets plus a season of unhappy Pau minus Martin and Scola doesn't make us title contenders.
Yeah but is the overall roster better by giving up Scola and Martin for Gasol? I mean if you are trying to win now, wouldn't it be better to give up younger pieces and try to keep your starters to play WITH Pau? Very confusing.... DD
Morey is angling for a superstar. That's his primary focus. He already knows he can magically put together a solid supporting cast using nothing more than second-round draft picks, other teams' cast-offs, string, a paper clip and duct tape. So every move he makes is to prepare for trying to snag a really big name, an A-list player. Gasol is not that guy, but I'm convinced he somehow figures into the plan to acquire that guy before the start of next season.
You have to ship out Scola and Martin if the plan really is to trade for Pau and sign a Nene because of the salaries which it looks like that may be the case. Nene was linked to already be done to NJ as early as just passed noon yesterday and he's still a free agent. Now reports are that he is possibily waiting on this mega-deal to go through. I would honestly rather have the Pau and Nene combo than Scola and Martin. Two towers who would own the paint on both ends of the floor and be pretty damn solid on the boards. We already know where a team lead by Scola and Martin can take us. We may also still have money to bring in an veteran shooting guard cut through amnesty. Pau alone is a lateral move IMO. It's the moves that will happen after is what will really tell where we sit.
Nene does not impress me and he has a history of cancer, it may be harsh, but I would not be taking a risk on him with a long term large deal. DD
Have absolutely no faith in Morey, looks to me he's flipping coins or using a ouija board to make his trades. Don't look now but the Knicks who supposedly Morey owns are building a great squad that will probably go deep into the playoffs this year.
Huh??? Gasol the #1 PF in league???? What league? He averaged 18 and 10 last year... Scola averagred 18 and 9... So not much increase in production, you screw up the team chemistry and we lose a top ten score in Martin who we will not be able to replace. Morey better have something more than Nene lined up.
