Can someone please start a "Give Morey an extension for another 10 years" Thread. Seriously, the man is working really hard right about now, possibly on 0 hours of sleep.
CD also gave us many terrible seasons filled with overpriced/overrated players as well as many terrible draft picks. Love CD as a person but Morey in his shorter time has already been far superior.
Considering the fact that the deal he had plan was going to net us Nene and Gasol and resign Chuck Hayes AND keep all of our young players. And the deal was shot down due to some power hungry commissioner. And Morey was close to resignation but from what we've seen is working his ass off. I don't know how anyone can fault Morey right now. He's trying his best, he can't spawn superstars and lottery picks out of nowhere. Let the man do his work like always before we evaluate.

Its easy playing armchair GM. I still like the idea of pooling all of our money and buying the team. Trades, free agents, draft picks, etc. could be completed using a poll.

yeah it's pretty amazing that so many people on here - people who by all accounts follow basketball closely - think that one can just pick up a #1 pick or a superstar out of thin air and that the only reason morey hasn't done so is b/c he's either too stupid or incapable or producing one. the guy has essentially turned a ton of our trash into serviceable to very good players and attractive assets. it's pretty damn obvious he's swinging for the fences but there's little you can do when you have an owner that refuses to completely rebuild and damn near every available superstar wants to play for one of three teams and your team isn't on the short list. i think a great question for the anti-morey-istas would be... who the f@ck do they think could come in and do a better job? odds are they don't have an answer b/c odds are they are morons.
That is not a fact. Nene was/is not a guarantee just because this deal goes through. No, I'm pretty sure nobody thinks that. Yeah, you tell em...those morons. I mean, if you're going to call out a sports executive based on years of results, you'd better at LEAST be able to lay out a detailed plan on how you (likely not a sports executive) would have done better. That, or at least NAME another sports executive who could have done better and how...it's really THAT simple. ...or just don't say anything at all unless it's positive. That way we know you're a real fan.
Rockets are back to 87-88 when they shipped Sampson outta here for Sleepy and them. Soon Olajuwon stepped in and stated he wanted to get younger instead of all these old asses. What followed was: Thorpe, Kenny, Maxwell, Horry, Cassell and the rest is history. We need to look for young talent and just play this season with what we have and look to be back in championship race in a few years, not now. Do you think even with Paul & Nene we're going to win that ring ?

Of course not, but that WAS his plan. It's funny, because I recall a while ago people were complaining that Morey only takes safe and cheap moves, thus he never makes a gamble that could give us a huge payoff. This IS the gamble. And he's doing it whiles retaining ALL of our young prospects. Every single one of them. That means even if our plan fails, we don't need to start from scratch. We're making moves towards contention or deep lottery. We're moving away from mediocrity.
