Let's be honest. Kobe and other superstars are underpaid being limited by the cap. If there were no cap its a given that Kobe would be making much more than Nene would ever see.
What other FA out there now, or in the future, are you expecting to come here to make us "title contenders". I may have a really low bar, but I'd sorta like to watch a team that plays good competitive ball, AND makes the playoffs. Heck, maybe even win a round or two. We haven't seen that the past few years while carefully accumulating all these assets and waiting on the one player that makes us "title contender". You can't win the championship if you don't make the playoffs. And you can't't score if you don't take the shot. *IF* we are going to make this trade to get Pau, we better have another big move in place, otherwise we are mired in mediocrity.
If we shipped (Dragic, Scola, Patterson, Lee) to the Hornets, and Hill to the Lakers & used the amnesty on Thabeet, we could pay Nene 64 over 4 years... Pau and Nene would combine for 34 million a year. Lowry/Martin/Pau/Nene would combine for about 51-52 million... Worth it?
Meh, I really think it is one of those contracts which we will regret after 2 years. He was never that good, he isn't that good and at 30+, he doesn't have the potential to be that good. I realize that this is somehow his market value (which is funny to me following a lockout) but I think it would be dumb to overpay him that much.
I just figured this thread could use some sort of clarity and non-lunacy haha it's all speculation anyway, especially with Morey.
I don't see how you can get both Nene and Pau without using martin's salary. But even in that scenario, Pau would be the guy getting the most touches in the post and Nene would/should be the rebounder/shot blocker/dirty worker between the 2. Although I know Nene likes to jack up shots like he's got the green light of a Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett. And Nene was the focal point of that? And it's not like they were lottery bound and then suddenly Nene led them on a tear to the 5th seed after the trades.
That's why you tank and find a superstar. You ONLY desperately overpay when you think that one player is going to put you over the top and win you a ring, not overpay when you think a player is going to help you get into th playoffs. People don't understand how CRIPPLING this would be, and don't understand that the POTENTIAL of the Nene/Gasol Rockets is NOT a championship, do yeah of this trade happens our chance of winning a title diminishes.
Well he had his best year ever last year and led the league in FG%. It's not crazy to think he can still get better.
That would be an insane offense, especially with Bud sitting on the perimeter. A bit weak defensively.
All this $15M/per to Nene talk is some inside joke which I am not a part of right. Because I seriously do not get it.
After the Melo trade, he was Denver's best player. And if I remember correctly, the team actually played much better after Melo left. They had better chemistry.
Dunks and layups are nice and good and gets you a high percentage alright, but that still doesn't mean he should get the green light to hoist jumpshots like he thinks he's the 2nd coming of Dream. Seriously the guy thinks he has the game of a HOF.
Nene does not require plays to be run for him to score. A perfect big man (next to Howard of course).
