That's why there's a lot of turnover. If we had all stars at all 5 spots you'd suddenly be seeing a lot less turnover. Complaining about turnover when your roster is horrible is just plain stupid IMHO.
I would prefer to be the team that gets Chris Paul. I assume we explored that option and were told he would not re-sign here.
Yeah, I agree with that. But Kobe will be done in a couple years so they'll be building around an undersized, injury prone PG. I love Chris Paul, probably the best PG, but he's gonna need significant help, as he showed in New Orleans. Obviously Howard to the Lakers would be the target, but he may end up doing a sign-and-trade this year and be off the market.
Remember they were looking to sign both Nene and Chuckwagon. Patterson wouldn't have gotten any minutes at all in that situation. Energy guys are easily found in both rounds of draft. As a rental they could go after someone like Leon Powe.
I'd take Chris Paul in a second. Make no mistake, if this deal were for Chris Paul instead of Pau Gasol, I'd be allllll over it. I'd throw in Lee or Patterson for that. No questions asked. That's a guy you can build around.

This satisfies the NBA's dual requirements of (i) getting NOLA younger and (ii) preventing LA from having enough cap space to sign Howard outright.
is this even real?? holy crap!!! nene for in excess of $17 million/season? anyone else think that's just crazy!!!?? are we really gonna get caught up in deal like that? kelvin cato just called, and he thinks this deal is bad.
This is the part that really pisses me off, that the Lakers can use Paul to recruit Kobe's replacement, and then Kobe's replacement can eventually recruit Paul's replacement, and on and on and on. And we're helping them do that. We are helping the Lakers get Chris Paul. I simply cannot wrap my brain around that fact. It tells us all we need to know about Alexander's priorities.
The Lakers would have gotten a big ass trade exception out of the original deal and Chris Sheriden reported a Dwight to Lakers trade would have followed.
Duncan is a great player, but like every other player circumstance matters. Let's not forget for a long time Duncan was considered soft and too nice. For years people said he couldn't beat Shaq and LA. People said KG would back down until he went to Boston. Hell, until last year Dirk was considered weak, TMac even destroyed him. Perspective matters, Pau was the main reason LA won their last title.
Oh, not doubt. But I don't think Paul would resign here, he want NY or LA. I think getting Paul, Howard, etc. would be the best option, much better than getting Gasol. But getting Gasol is better than standing pat.
WOAH. Hopefully he takes a pay cut if we get Gasol. Wouldn't pay him 17 mil even for Gasol/Nene frontcourt.
