I think this pretty much sums up where Gasol stands in the NBA hierarchy of superstars.

If you have read the published scientific literature on the power of groups to reach the optimal solution then you cannot disagree. Only if you have a ranking from the 30 GM's could you find a better group to rate the players.

Or perhaps you only think that there are 4-8 superstars in the league. I guess you could be thinking that - maybe?

If we want Nene, we need to trade atleast one of Martin/Scola.

Pau is not nearly as enticing without Nene, who covers up a ton of his weaknesses.

1: calling me crazy? I don't know how I am supposed to look that coming from a poster who's self-proclaimed "mad".

without pau kobe was nothing. he could barely get to anywhere near finals after o'neal departed. and judging by their performance, does 4-24 in a finals ring a bell to you?

2: no you can't? and morey is not going to tank? and you are not going to accept the most skilled big man in the league as your prize? oh oh oh...

but you seem fazed by logical arguments and movements that would transform this team from an era of perennial mediocrity into an exciting new style of Rockets basketball lead by men with significant past success and experience. instead you prefer to nit-pick the bones within eggs and go within the realms of DD. i'm not gonna waste my finger-strength with you anymore, for you take pride in successive 14th picks and decides to drag the team you supposedly support back by 3 years.

morey will have you judged wrong by the morning. seeing you support morey 100%, a lesson from morey in the morning shouldn't be out of ur breakfast menu.

"if you havent been part it, then at least you got to witness".

we'll have our claws ready. ;-)

I think Pau is a very very good player. I'm not arguing that. I'm not saying I wouldn't want him on the Rockets at all under the right terms.

Max I'm with you on much of what you say, but while Clutch was on the radio yesterday morning, there was talk about Pau being the leading candidate for MVP through most of last season.

One last word about Houston being a smaller market team. Any older fans will remember that SI didn't have the Rockets on the cover after their first championship. This was the first time this had ever happened, and their excuse was Houston was a small market team. At that time we were the 4th largest city in the nation. It wasn't until many threatened canceling their subscriptions, did SI put them on a limited addition cover.

And really, good luck to the Rockets trying to pry away anyone above him on the list except for a unwilling rental.

Putting aside Nene for moment. Paying a player the full price on his value is not moneyball. Berri also writes Chuckwagon's value is over $17 million.

Stern isn't forcing the Rockets to do anything. If they are included in the deal it's because the Rockets have offered them and are willing to part with them for Gasol.

It's very likely Scola is already included in the deal. The younger pieces are additions.

If their plan is to add Nene. Lee and Patterson were prime candidates to be traded if the original deal had gone down anyway. Both starting wing spots would have suddenly become an area of need.

I think Pau is borderline Top 10. Far better than KMart or Scola, and he'd be the best player we've had since Yao or Tmac.

He has 3 years left on his contract.

When his contract ends, he'll still be 33, and we could sign him for another 3 good years.

Tall PFs who can shoot have longer careers, so I'm not worried about a decline (though I am worried about the undersized Scola).

Having Pau here would make it MUCH more attractive for other stars. They know Pau can win a ring.

Pau opens up the door for Nene. Yes, we might be overpaying for Nene, but it's clear that Nene is highly valued around the league (he's getting multiple offers) so we'd be getting a good player we could flip later if needed.

i've seen a lot of that on twitter. they're ready for him to be gone already...but i'm guessing most of that has to do with his sleep walking performance during the playoffs last season. unfair to pau, honestly.

Whatever happens, I'll try to remain optimistic. Either way, I hope we know by the end of the day.

NBA's issue w @CP3 trade may be more about Lakers than Hornets: trade would clear $77M (57M from Gasol, 20M Odom) for future star(s).

It's hard to believe that by adding Chris Paul, the lakers would be clearing that kind of salary cap space at the same time.

    Yeah, that's true.

Didn't Morey say the wing spots are the easiest spots to fill in the NBA?

Great for us though! IF we get pau and nene, we would demolish the faker front line.

It's silly to look at salary space in terms of total contract value. One has to look at it per year. And obviously, if they want to re-sign Paul, they will have to give him a max deal. And it's not like Pau and Odom are bad players. The Lakers would be taking a risk with this deal. I would just hope that Paul and Kobe won't get along and that Bynum takes the season off and that they implode.

Jerry Buss was using the Hornet as a contract dumping ground.

We always hear about teams having to include picks to make trades appear fair in order to get passed by the NBA. Suddenly this doesn't apply anymore?

Yeah and most of that money would be going back to CP3's contract extention. So in reality they really aren't clearing $77 million for "future stars".
