That's not moneyball. Dallas has a history of overpaying for their players. Chandler has always been a high upside guy but more recently hampered by turf toe. Again picking up Chandler as a rental is not something new in the NBA. Cuban isn't willing to offer Chandler a long term contract. A possible example of moneyball would be Mike Dunleavy who the Bucks signed for the mini-MLE. He had a break out season two years ago hitting nearly 20ppg at a very high FG. Then he had a possible career ending injury. The surgery he had that had never been performed on a NBA player before. In the NFL players who had this procedure took around two years to fully recover from. His percentages are backup and if he's can come near his 2008 season there's your shining example of a moneyball player.
If Tim Duncan had played in Memphis during his prime, would he have won all of those championships? Would he be regarded as highly as he is today?
No. Pau Gasol isn't the kind of player you build around to become a championship contender. He's a piece you add to your alpha dog to put you over the top. Alpha dogs are legit MVP candidates who finish first team all NBA. He's a really good Robin to a Batman. You're fooling yourself if you're equating him to Nowitzki. He's not that. I mean it won't take that long. OK City didn't have Morey...and for all the crap I like to dish out because there's such a circle jerk for him, I think Morey is a good GM and I've said umpteen million times I wouldnn't fire him. I think the threads here where people suggest he should be fired are ridiculous. But it's more fun to characterize me as someone who hates Morey because I dare to think he's beyond question. Morey with all the assets he's compiled...if he were told by Les that he could do this however he wanted...would trade away players like crazy to have a team that would be bad enough to pick up key players in what is going to be a very very deep 2012 draft. He might even find our alpha dog there. Morey has already said that he knows losing would be an easier path to rebuilding...but that he's under orders from Les to remain competitive while doing so.
to this moment, 250 pages and 5000 posts later, does not represent the latest updated opinion on the trade. if I wanted to change my vote from a yes to a no, its not possible either. instead lets concentrate on the current real-time posters here. you can't possibly tell me you are choosing to ignore that fact hordes of posters are running against you. how many of those voters have watched gasol or nene play on a consistent basis? aaaahhhh...
. Nene is better than chandler IMO. im going by nenes point production over chandler. everything else is almost equal
When Pau Gasol sleeps at night, he dreams of being as good as Duncan was. Have we lost all persepctive? Pau is Dirk? Pau is Duncan? Really? Duncan was Duncan with or without his cast. He was a first team all NBA player who is arguably the best PF to ever have played the game.
This doesn't even work in terms of salary. So I don't know where MadMax is getting his delusional info from. The trade tweaking supposedly more along the lines of the Lakers getting more salary(Gilbert sentiment) and adding more incentive for NO(counter Stern's "bsaketball reason" veto). If the Rockets have to add young talent, they'll retract KMart and add in some 09ers as salary fillers. Pau Gasol is arguably the 2nd best center in the NBA. He at least more or less ties for #2 with someone. Nene is at least top 10 NBA center. Perhaps top 5 depending on your metric. Plus they both can play PF for flexibility(remember Boozer killing us because of Okur?). Considering the Rockets have had no assets and no capspace since the day Morey took over, that he can get this for us is nothing short of a miracle. And yet the complaints still won't stop.
Morey is bending over hard. We might as well gut this whole freaking team for the aging Gasol. Heck give them Lowry too.
hordes...there's about 10 people here posting right now. there is almost always support for making a move..for making a change on a team that is sucky to marginal. i'm most surprised by those who told me our current roster was a championship contender who are now in support of this deal.
You can't follow $Ball and then continue overpaying for your players if your statistics don't back that up. Obviously Cuban is following some sort of crazy $ball strategy, like when he traded for Kidd because his numbers showed Kidd was the 2nd best player in the L. The fact that he didn't extend Chandler shows that he does value flexibility, if all Dallas does is overpay for their players without any thought or strategy why let Chandler walk away then?
i'm getting it from THIS thread. i woke up this morning and asked for an update, and that's what I was told. if we're not giving up KMart, i feel entirely different about all this. i'm commenting on the rumored trade that we've been discussing all morning that involved everything we were giving up yesterday plus either lee or patterson.
His reputation is on the line. At the end of the day he will not be remembered as the guy who can only gather assets but could have never gotten a superstar.
He contributes more to the Lakers than Kobe does for the last 2 titles. ok, going by your "argument" that gasol isnt the alpha dog. can you please find me a wade or lebron to come be the alpha dog? where? is cp3 keen? i'd personally fly to houston to give you a statue of yourself if you can get us a "madmax alpha-dog" to come to Houston. Note: he has to be better than gasol(PER + wins generated) and has to be younger than 26 years old.
