Question. Why do we have to trade pau especially if hes worth that much. can we trade some other pieces on our team to get more money for Nene. I didnt know Pau was worth that much... I would rather have Nene for that money
Only to someone who is that simplistic. Horry has more rings than all of them...does that make him better? Dirk had carried his team as an alpha dog type player. Pau has never done that. He was a really good compliment to Kobe. Dirk has been First Team All NBA 4 different seasons...Pau never has been that. Dirk has been Second Team All NBA 5 different seasons...Pau has been that once. Don't pretend you're trading for Dirk Nowitzki here. Or that caliber of player. Disagree...it won't take that long at all. Not if Morey is what you guys tell me he is. And if there's truly no way that we can EVER attract an alpha dog type player in free agency, then we're kinda stuck. Because the history of the NBA says you don't win titles without one of those guys. Sounds like we don't have much choice assuming we really want to be a championship contender.
Martin and Scola were both still being traded along with young guys? And the center position in this league is hard to fill. Marc will probably offered a near max contract by someone, Dalembert will probably still get 7-8 mil/ yr, and Chandler just got a huge contract. Nene getting 15mil per year doesn't shock me at all.
The very exception that proves the rule. In all of the history of the NBA, you can name ONE TEAM that didn't have that caliber of player on it.

Pau Gasol isn't an alpha dog? He took a crap Memphis team to the playoffs multiple times. Dirk's been playing with good players for most of his career, Gasol's 2nd best player was Shane Battier, the third best was the old and broken down Damon Stoudemire. What do you mean it won't take that long at all? The Thunder started out with a clear cap space AND a clear cut franchise player in the draft, and it still took them 5 years to get to this point. I don't think you can get a better rebuilding scenario than that.

Morey has a proven track record of getting above average guys for almost nothing, but we have to pay to get really good guys. Guys like Nene and Gasol are going to get paid. That's just the going rate for top tier bigs. Lets look at our team now. Lowry - we got for Rafer Kmart - we got him for Landry who was a 2nd rd pick Lee - we got him for an underperforming Ariza Cbud - 2nd round pick Scola - got him for cap relief because Vspan missed his mommy Hayes - undrafted PPat and Morris were late lotto. If Morey can get two top tier players like Gasol and Nene, I have all the faith in the world that he can get more above average talent to support them. If we get lucky, then PPat and Morris will show enough improvement and potential get a major star in a trade.
