So the problem with the first deal is that Houston was giving up everything and handing Paul to the Lakers, so now Morey is adding even more "assets." Why couldn't he just have quit?
Marc Gasol's max starts at 14.5 under the new CBA. Precedent wise though, I think a salary starting with ~12 mil/yr should satisfy him. We lost out on Chuck but if we can amnesty Thabeet and then sign Marc (assure him that he can play with Pau) then do the LA-NO-HOU trade afterwards without sacrificing Martin, we can potentially end up with Gasol Gasol ? Martin Lowry (reference to http://www.memphisflyer.com/BeyondtheArc/archives/2011/12/01/five-possible-marc-gasol-contracts)
A player can only partially waive a trade kicker to the extent necessary to make a trade workable under salary cap rules. Otherwise, a player cannot waive a trade kicker.
Don't we still have the Battier TPE to work with or will this be gone with the trade? I wouldn't mind taking Ariza or someone else with the Battier TPE because it seems we are being stripped bare of wing talent right now.
I'm going to predict that Montiejuna makes Patterson expendable. They see him as the future of the team. Pau is here if this trade goes through now. Next year we bring in Montie and groom him behind his prototypical mentor.
random question, i thought motie has to wait til next season to come over.. any chance he plays for the rockets this year?
Yes, we'd still have it for this trade, but taking on Ariza's salary would pretty much kill any chance of signing Nene. Morey's not going to take back much salary (if any) besides Gasol in this trade. He wants that cap room for Nene.
So hypothetically, if this trade were to go down and we end up with Gasol/Nene, how much money would we have left to spend on a FA?
Maybe i missed it, but if this deal goes through, can we match what NJ can offer to Nene? Is it realistic to dump more salary to match it?
He's staying over seas. I think this is best for him. He gets a lot of playing time and is still growing. He will get tougher and be more physically prepared next year being 22 and already playing multiple years as a pro including arguably the second best league in the world.
0 Dorrars... But If Daryl doesn't trade away all our players, we will have some room for trade. (We signed your boy Jermaine Taylor for a reason!)
Even if we just matched it WE DON'T HAVE STATE INCOME TAX! Nene will make more money and have less cost of living.
Hearing that Ariza, Jack or Okafor are the three candidates to get amnesty cut by the Hornets........
