Courtney Lee and Chase Budinger/Marcus Morris/Terrence Williams? Usually when you trade someone, the person behind them takes their place... it's really not that complicated.
After he gets Pau and Nene, he can make other trades. The fact is that we become far more dangerous in the paint offensively and defensively. That is how championships are won. It would be interesting to see the moves he would make If this Pau/Nene business goes down...
Courtney Lee is a very solid 2 guard IMO, athletic, runs well, plays solid D and isn't a square peg trying to fit into a round hole like Ariza or Artest. I have no problem starting Courtney Lee at the 2. As for the 3, Budinger proved last season he can be an efficient scorer, but he has also proved he's still young and will disappear for stretches. I don't see how Marcus Morris contributes right away, especially if you're dealing with an entire team learning a new system and new teammates. Then again, might make it easier for him if he's not behind on the learning curve from the get-go.
Please just listen to moe. You just sound very short sighted. Our team will have the make up of the Grizzlies, they didnt have anyone special on the wings during their playoff run. Yes, they have Rudy Gay but I like Morris better.
Yes, it's not that complicated. But what if the reports are true of Morey offering younger talent? That could mean any combination of Bud and Lee being gone. Backups to Martin and losing a starter.
wings are easier to come by there is a premium for long 4 and solid 5's and even more of a premium for 5's with a stroke and good foot work
I wonder if it comes down to Lee or Patterson which one Morey will give up. At this point I think it has to Patterson. As much as its like pulling teeth to give him up, because I liked what I saw from him he does have limited potential in the sense that he's a bit undersized at the 4. Lee on the other hand is everything you want in a 2 guard and basically creates a lockdown starting 5 with the notable exception of the 3 spot (unless Morris somehow develops into a bulldog).
again, I think minesota will get in on this somewhere... I dont think the rockets want to Martin back after he heard his name in the original trade... some bridges are burned down now...
I wish I could elaborate further. Daryl Morey knows that Lowry/Nene/Gasol isn't quite good enough, but it is absolutely the foundation he has been looking for. I trust in his ability to find hidden talent, and to accumulate enough of it to find another Martin-esque player for the SG/SF... (We could always take a look at some of the amnesty guys too...Josh Howard was rumored to want to play with Nene...)
Agreed. The higher percentage shot is the nearer you are to the rim. If you have good interior defense, teams would be forced to be beat you from the outside which improves our chances of winning. In this era of zone defenses, a mobile big man has the biggest impact in the game on both ends of the floor.
True, but these are dents Morey has a proven history of fixing by acquiring guys like, you know, Lee and Patterson. Morey had landed many kinds of talents like Brooks, Lowry, Martin, Lee, Landry, and Scola without much at his disposal. The one thing he couldn't land is a good full-sized rim-protecting big. If he can get two of these in this deal, he needs to do it and fix the dents later.
My prediction/theory: (1) Lakers agreed to eat Jermaine O'neal's salary, paving the way for NO to S&T West to Boston for O'neal, maybe Avery Bradley and the Clippes' 2012 first round pick (top-10 protected) (this trade is speculation on my part based on Wojo's sources saying JO was involved and then using common sense) (2) Rockets agreed to throw in another young player. Hopefully not a top prospect, but possibly. If so, there's got to be a deal in place with Nene. (3) Lakers are giving the Rockets one or two first round picks in exchange for upping their offer. Presumably, NO had no interest in those likely late first rounders. Final trade (best guess): Boston gets: David West LA Lakers get: Chris Paul Jermaine O'neal Houston gets: Pau Gasol LAL first round pick (and locks up Nene) New Orleans gets: Lamar Odom Kevin Martin Luis Scola Goran Dragic (Young Rockets Player) Avery Bradley 2012 NYK first round pick (top-5 protected) 2012 LAC first round pick (top-10 protected)
