Teams have the right two use amnesty for years not weaks. But they can only use it once and on a player they have under contract at the time the new CBA is ratified. If the league were really looking out for NOH they would block the Jermain ONeal trade. The league is trying to prevent the lakers from getting a one sided deal not help the hornets. Read the Dan Gilbert letter to Stern and it will all come clear.
@ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein NBA teams informed of key dates today, sources say. Window to amnesty players is Dec. 9 (today) thru Dec. 16. Trade deadline is March 15
I'm not 100% sure but I thought that this just applied to newly signed FAs. If this is the case them I'm sure this becomes a 4-Way trade. I think this is BS that the hornets are just handing Boston David West. Why is this not vetoed? Why not just let them outright sign him and not get involved?
Why want Gasol who clearly said he dosen't wanna be here..He probaly wont play as hard like he did IN LA. to get traded. or he can opt out or leave cant he?...i mean..we want n need someone thats intrested in us also. clearly gasol is stuck in la..msotly every1 that won championships with them...they're like a family reason why they dont wanna leave...
I notice a strong correlation between typing like a 7 year old and spreading misinformation. Gasol never went on record that he doesn't want to be here.
WTF?????? How can this trade be approved Oneil for West? Its like those trades in FF when people try to dump injured scrubs for stars and no one vetos's the trade.......where is Stern now how is Oneil good for NO. With West Boston just got really strong.....
hmmm. NO. YOU ARE WRONG. McHale is a big man's coach and he will be able to keep Gasol under his control. There are players all over the player saying they dont wanna come here or go there, e.g. ron artest to sacramento or stephen jackson to milwaukee, but the reality is they have to be a professional and honour their contract, which they have no option of dictating where they want to go. don't worry, when gasol is able to team up with nene, or even better, with his lil bro, he'll be more than happy to be the top dog in town. in la he has to work with a massive ball hog who only pass to him when he feels like he needs an assist. mchale would be great for gasol.
It's easier to approve because West isn't under contract like cp3. He is a free agent. It's a sign-and-trade. That being said, I hate the fact that the league is deciding which transactions meet approval.
The window will open again next season and for the remainder of seasons during the new CBA. See the Larry Coon FAQ
I'm not worried about Gasol playing hard. I have a funny feeling he'll actually be better here with better mates and without Kobe crapping down his neck all the time. Also, McHale has an outstanding rep with bigs. Gasol will bond with him. That is...........if we keep Gasol long term.
Why do I suspect there's now a wink wink deal between Stern and NOH for the number one pick in the Lottery.
David West being traded to the Celtics for Jermaine O 'Neal...doesn't Stern have enough 'basketball reasons' to object to that trade. Or maybe he just respected the autonomy of the GM on this trade?
David West reportedly traded to the Celtics for Jermaine O'Neal... will Dan Gilbert ask Stern to submit the decision to a vote by the 29 other owners of the Hornets? Now Stern will justify it with the same 'basketball reasons' which reason knows nothing of.
