Looking at amnesty guys, Billups Is clearly the best. A bit old and slow, but still amazingly efficient. If a trade cost us some perimeter depth (KM, Dragic) and we manage to get some cap space, why not him? Is there another guy worth investing something at in the amnesty fantasy auction?
I always liked Billups a lot. I was thinking about this as well. If we actually deal Dragic and if Billups was willing to do it, I'd look into it.
If the Gasol trade somehow ends up getting done, yes. Otherwise no. No point in bringing Billups in to play 12-15 minutes behind Lowry. If Martin were to be traded, you could play Billups at backup PG & SG for ~30 minutes a night, which is probably something you'd have look at.
We'd have to wait and see how the trade goes down. If he's willing to take a back up job behind Lowry I say ok.
Heat have no cap space, thus will have to wait for Billups to clear waivers and more than likely somebody will bid on him on the amnesty waiver. My guess would be Sacramento.
For those who don't know, you have to be under the cap to make a bid. And it can't exceed your cap. So the Rockets, assuming they push through both the Gasol trade and the Nene signing, would have no cap. So I wouldn't worry about about amnesty signings for now. But if there is a player I want to sign, it's Rashard Lewis. But I don't think we'll have the money to outbid the scrub teams who need to fill salary anyway.
I'd take Billups in a second, but he's made it known that if gets waived/traded to a team he doesn't like that he'll retire.
C'mon. You can't seriously believe that. He/his agent is just trying to force his way to the Heat. Obviously he'd prefer to go there, but I can't see him retiring. No way. Billups is a pro.
