I've been wanting to get a quality camera to shoot 1080 and the Nex 5 is the only that is in my price range and best compares to those beasts from Canon (60D, 7D etc.). Does anyone know anything about this camera first hand? thx
Are you truly looking for a 1080p video camera or a camera that happens to do video? Are you actually going to get different lenses for your DSLR or just whatever lens comes in the original kit? Are you looking for something portable and easy to carry around or are you willing to carry around a bag of lenses?
Get a Canon t2i. It shoots HD video just as good as the 60D and 7D, and you can easily get one with a kit lens for under $600.
I have one, and the speed and picture quality is a lot better than the Panasonic LX-3 I owned, which was, around the time I got the NEX 5, the best point-and-shoot by a lot of measures. Never owned a DSLR, so I have no other point of reference. I'd say if the only reason you want to get it is because of the size, then you'll probably be disappointed because, as small as it is, it's still quite a bit larger than point-and-shoot cameras and is no way pocketable (it fits in our diaper bag though, whereas my sister's Canon T-2i doesn't fit in hers).
if you want to shoot quality video get an actual dslr. Nex5-3-7 have crap lens. Get a little plastic rebel like a t3i or t2i. 60d is pretty good also. you need the manual control, and external Mic input. Value in lens on an eos mount is not even in the same ballpark as nex. What do they have now? 4 lenses? Lol
