From what I've been able to glean from the rumors it seems more like the trade hinges upon what kind of youth the Rockets can offer instead of what the Lakers can do to sweeten the deal. It seems unfair, certainly, but the Rockets do have the incentive of Nene to consider and the Lakers don't really have any young players or valuable picks to offer to NOH, which is apparently integral to the league allowing any kind of deal to happen. I just dawned on me that you might be right though, and that the league is just using the youth front as an easy way of saying the Lakers are getting off too easy once again. If that's the case I can't really see anything coming to fruition, cause there doesn't seem to be any other reasonable alternative from the Lakers' point of view. There has to be some underlying nuances that we aren't seeing (captain obvious, I know) if all three teams are still working hard to make things work.
In this trade they are and should be, and that's why I said they should be untouchable right now. We aren't the ones getting Paul, yet we are giving up the most for a 31 year old center? If we were the ones getting Paul...then yeah, no one is untouchable... I'm okay with giving up Martin/Scola for Gasol. They both are around the same age and at the same point in their career...but to give up Patterson or Morris or even D-Mo for Pau? This is going backwards to me and I hope Morey is not going to do this.
Keep martin....i think we're going to need his shooting a lot more than anything we'd get from scola. Send a combo of scola, picks, lee, budinger, twill, flynn, overseas players, etc.
Right, this deal is starting to look exceptionally steep for a team that is only getting Gasol and cap space (with the hopeful potential of signing Nene as a result) out of it.
I'd be hesitant to keep Martin. Seems like he checked out mentally according to Feigan. Don't want that type of negative vibe in the locker room.
This is an awful deal. I know Morey is all about cap space, but we cant get a superstar to come to Houston, so what is the point?
These are the young players I'd be willing to give up. Morris/Patterson/D-Mo we have no idea what we have there. Great all-time players were drafted at 14 and back, AT LEAST see what we have before giving them up for a player that may be past his prime in about 2 years.
KevinDing KEVIN DING Bynum said Kupchak gathered team at start of practice to address "awkward moment."
It's funny how a lot of people are talking about Gasol being old even though Hakeem was 31 when he won his fitst championship! He had five really good years after that. Scola is the same age...
Martin said Morey "showed his cards today" and Matt Thomas tweeted that while Scola took it as business as usual, Martin was upset and didn't want to return to Houston.
why the hell are we bending over to help the lakers so much? that's the most ridiculous part of all this mess.
