Since all experts agree our assets were good enough to get Paul alone and now the best offer they could have possibly given Hornet out of anyone? Why make this deal now? We can offer this for something better perhaps? Maybe top picks since they think so highly of our players now.
If we pull this out Morey will have sacrificed 5 years of his life in terms of lack of sleep and stress. I think rockets and lakers are font to start mixing young players and picks.
You just nailed it. This is about screwing the Lakers as much as anything else. The Hornets were getting a sweetheart of a deal for CP3.
Here are things as I understand them. The first trade was struck down because: 1) No one left in NO to attract enough fans or a new owner (no star with recognition) 2) Owners didnt like players demanding where to go and forming superteams 3) Some wanted to punish LA ? Houston was already sending Scola and Martin. We dont have anyone higher profile to send to address item 1) 2) can only be addressed if the trade basically makes it impossible for LA to add a 3rd star Solve 2), and you have solved 3) So, the only way I see this trade changing in a fashion to satisfy Stern & Co. is for LA to give up more. Houston isnt the target of Sterns wrath or the owners point of concern. So I dont see Houston's +/- in this trade getting worse. It could work out in Houston's favor if LA giving up more translates into Houston having to give up less to make the numbers work.
So... Marc Gasol still hasn't signed a new contract. Really surprised nobody has offered him a contract. Wanna see how far Memphis will go to match it.
Maybe Marc is waiting to see where Pau goes? I know Marc is an RFA but if he refused to sign with Memphis then I would assume they would have to let him go....
This is sorta like how I love watching basketball but almost always end up throwing a shoe at the TV because of the refereeing,
I would love this trade, even more so, if we could somehow keep Martin and/or the draft pick. Lowry-Martin paired with Gasol, and possibly Nene (not sure yet), would've been a really good team that could challenge for a homecourt spot. At the moment, I'm really on the fence with this trade, it's not necessarily a bad trade at all for us, though it's not an exceptional one, either. It would feel better, if Gasol was younger and a bit more hungrier. I'm going to miss our version of K-Mart and Scola.
The hornets are desperately looking for an owner. Why would they want guys like Scola and Martin who will keep the payroll high and ensure they remain a competitive team? Lakers need to add more picks and Rockets should not add anything more than Scola + Martin for Pau
Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard Union has told NBA if suitable CP trade not made by Monday, it will pursue other options, including litigation, sources say...
NBA needs something similar to a franchise tag like the NFL has, don't know how that would work but I like the idea.
