Yeah this is a good point. Stern is the ultimate mafia bad guy. The heat starts coming down on him and instead of negotiating he starts ordering hits.

I think if we dont' have another C in place to pair with Gasol this original trade does fall through completely and we back out. I also thing we would shift our attention to DH12. He is great friends with Lee and obviously we are connected with him in someway or these rumors about tampering wouldn't have surfaced. Notice the Magic dropped the allegations. Maybe we are going to offer them a deal they cannot refuse. This would be the absolute best case. We would get our superstar and center in one swoop. If this happens I begin to rescind my hate of Stern and thank him for being a dictator.
Yeah, once Nene is out of our reach, the Martin/Scola trade for Gasol looks more and more bizarre. Of course, I don't think we'd be able to get Gasol without that specific trade or a trade netting LA Dwight. Maybe we trade Scola and try to get Jefferson? He plays similar to Gasol, but is younger.

this is the crap I am talking about... three years... even if we have 3-4 additional players who can seriously contribute..there is no way we would be a contender...no freaking way....we would still make the playoffs and possibly reach the second round, but that's it we either go all in and get someone like Howard or we tank the season... I am sick and tired of being somewhere in the middle of nowhere

Lakers add a draft pick (to NO), take back Ariza and a smaller TE, and it should pass. With Paul's (and possible Les's, Buss's, or even the NBPA's) lawsuit looming and the landslide of media criticism, Stern probably realizes he needs to get out of this quagmire asap.
