Little more than Battier? I think you should go take a look at those teams again. The Pau Gasol of today is still not a dude that I want as my franchise player. He isn't carrying anyone to the promised land. Great secondary option. Primary option....I'll pass. I guess you missed the last postseason?
They could amnesty him today to do that......same with Thabeet, Twill, Scola, Martin..anyone.....if they really wanted Nene they could make a run, but it would be painful asset wise. DD
Supposed to show ESPN's poll where Stern's decision is polling 'Diminishes NBA's credibility a lot' @ 66%
An All-Star 7 footer is alot more attractive and harder to come by than star players at other positions. And who would you want as your franchise player with ANY realistic possibility of coming here?
As of 48 hours ago, who had Pau Gasol as an option for us? Too many folks want a contender in one fell swoop. It doesn't work that way. Gasol, even with Nene, isn't the foundation by itself for a contender. We all know this. But they definitely CAN be No. 2 and No. 3 options on a contender. In fact, Gasol has already proven that in LA. Maybe the Rockets wouldn't be able to eventually make a deal for their No. 1. But the Gasol/Nene combo would give them at least a CHANCE at building a contender. It would put them one player away. Now, even if they hypothetically deal for a No. 1, they won't have the talent around that player - especially on the inside - to make a real run. It's a multi-step process to build a championship contender, unless you have a bizarre Miami Heat 2010 situation. Gasol and Nene were parts of it.
I dont think so...if nene wants to come here more than nets and we want to pay him 16 + mil... he will wait... Hes gonna get the money no matter what...not like Nets are going to be like sign now or were paying jordan 16 million.
But the Nets may sign him before they get Dwight Howard, allowing Nene to play PF which he has repeatedly said he wants to do. Nene will not sign with Houston to play center.... DD
That doesnt make sense...he obviously was coming here to play C for Gasol who is better suited as the PF
I didn't realize he was a primary option in 2010. There was this Kobe guy. I have been fortunate to see Hakeem play and realize how much having a stud primary option can improve your game when I can't say, double team you at will.
No, it's not. The Rockets haven't been one player away in some time, unless you were one of the wildly optimistic ones that believed Yao could stay healthy. There's not a single player in the league the Rockets could trade for - LeBron, Wade and Kobe included - that by themselves would make this roster a contender. In a league of star-driven teams, you need that reliable No. 2 inside to have any chance. People are just complaining because the order is reversed, and they want the No. 1 here before making a deal for a No. 2. Problem is, the Rockets don't have the luxury of getting No. 1 and No. 2 level stars whenever and however they want. They have to make the deals whenever they come, and this would have filled a hole. Not the biggest hole, but a very relevant one.
