And why would I ever believe Stern? I think we are seeing the owners get their pound of flesh from the Carmelo debacle. No matter how much it hurts.
My thinking is that, whatever the league says, the real story is that they dont' think the Lakers gave up enough rather than just Hornets not getting enough. So, whatever consideration is given, it will likely be given by the Lakers. Eating a contract + an extra pick low first rounder seems to make sense. It's not like they can't afford it. I don't think Morey would give up Patterson. He's proven to be valuable-- one of those rare rookies that had a clue about where to be on the court. Another thing: I wonder if something would make sense with the Rockets getting Okafor if the Nene option falls through. Okafor can be kind of a stiff, but he's a defensive presence, good rebounder and even a local Houston guy.
Just went from visions of Nene/Gasol at PF/C to Patterson/Scola.....rough. Perhaps this is enough to get Morey the greenlight to tank?
This isn't about the Rockets or Hornets. It's about the Lakers getting too much for too little. LA was making out like bandits, and small market owners gagged on the unfairness of it all. Proving, BTW, that even billionaires have a sense of victim hood. This all comes down to three words, pettiness, jealousy, and desperation.
We could take back another player after the trade and Nene signing via TPE relieving them of salary???? Ariza?
A sufficiently healthy Gasol should be very useful even at age, say, 35 or above. I mean, even Kurt Thomas is still getting work and he's no where near as good. It's just really hard to find a good 7 footer. The drop off between a good 7 footer and a bad one is so much greater than the dropoff between a good SG and a lesser one.
They really arent though. Adding Paul and losing Odom/Pau is huge. Bynum is suspended the first five games of the season meaning they are starting Walton and Caracter. If Dwight goes to NJ, the Lakers are straight up boned.
Hopefully it's a good sign that Nene hasn't accepted the Nets offer. Could mean that he's waiting to see if we get Pau over here.
no, they're not. this trade for the Lakers isn't merely about next season. it's about adding their alpha dog they plan on building around for the next decade. CP3 in purple and gold would most certainly be able to help them attract the kind of players necessary for them to build their next champion...and that they were acquiring him and still gaining money under the cap was unreal.
Jonathan_Feigen Jonathan Feigen They don't have the cap room, now. RT @3rdCstTexFan: @Jonathan_Feigen Rockets push much harder for Nene now?
Because he realizes the situation and does the best job he can under the circumstances. If Paul won't sign in Houston, then maybe we can help him get to LA and pick up something we need. Morey if anything is a practical man. DD
Bima, Can the Rockets just find a way to dump, say, Jonny Flynn ($3.4 million) in a small trade in order to clear some space to run at Nene while this whole Pau/CP/Scola/Martin mess is being sorted out?
