I think it finally becomes clear. The NBA plans to veto every trade of superstars from small market teams to big market teams for "Basketball Reasons". Make those traitorous superstars accept less $ by forcing them to finish their contracts with the small market teams and sign for $35m less in free agency. But the people that really get hurt here are the small market teams. My mother used to say "cut off your nose to spite your face".
ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix Small market owners may have wanted to screw LA, Stern may have wanted to stick it to Chris Paul but the biggest loser in all this is HOU ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix Rockets had a solid, smart plan to make Pau and Nene the front line of at least the next three years. Now, they may get neither.

Anyone hear the echo? I swear I just heard the same thing posted 3 times in a row! But seriously that sucks about Pau/Nene...we could have had 2 beefeaters in the post...something we havent had since Mo Taylor/Cato
I guess he didn't notice how far the Grizz got with Gasol as their primary option. Was he not covering the league then?
Stern reportedly clarified that the decision was made by the league office as a team owner not as regulator because of the value of Paul being in New Orleans. Its like Les Alexander nixing a trade which his GM had been working on for months.
Trying to think of ways to re-structure trade to get league approval. The most logical way would be for the Lakers to take back salary for Odom (the current trade has them trading Odom into NO's cap space). Would taking on Jarrett Jack's $5M per for two seasons be enough. Don't know if the Lakers would want to take back Ariza's contract. Also, the Lakers ought to put up a couple of picks here. They still own all of their first rounders, plus they have CHI's 2012 second rounder and DEN's 2013 second rounder. Add a couple of those to the deal. On the Rockets' side, I think they've given up quite a bit already, but I'd be willing to do more . . . IF Nene is truly off the board to New Jersey. If the Rockets no longer need the extra cap room to sign Nene, I'd prefer they take on a bit of extra salary rather than trade away a guy like Patterson. Maybe offer up Llull's ($0 against the cap/payroll) rights. Worst case scenario, would you be willing to take on Steve Blake's deal ($4M per for three seasons) in exchange for an expiring contract? I'm brainstorming here, people!!!
bad move by morey the rockets shouldnt waste two great players for a good one, if they are willing to trade scola martin and dragic then they should go with a powerful center like superman(dwight howard)
Why not Okafor coming home to Houston in the deal and sending them Thabeet? I would really like to not give up much more, we keep our youth and get our center, but getting Okafor might help with shedding some more salary for New Orleans. Agree that the Lakers made out like bandits, they should have to take on salary and give up picks... DD
Uh . . . Gasol was JUST hitting his prime when he got traded to the Lakers. An up-and-coming Gasol led this team to a mid-seed three years in a row with little more than a young Shane Battier to help him. The Pau Gasol of TODAY is a much, much better player. He's now in his prime and should be throughout his current contract. He's 31 now and will still be only 33 years old when he plays his final game under his current contract.
Nice 1st post. Unfortunately, you have it backwards. Scola and Martin are two good players, and Gasol is a great player.
$16 million for Nene is not a smart plan. If Deron leaves the Nets next year I am going to laugh myself silly.
