Nets reported four-year, $60-$65 million contract offer knocks Houston out of the bidding, source says. Too rich.

One more note for when games actually start: From Dec. 25-Feb. 6, NBA teams allowed to dress/play 13 guys per game, one more than usual 12
    Interesting.

So the Rockets never had a chance even if the Pau trade went down.

This is not correct. The legal world deals with conflicts of interest all the time. There is a legal term called the Chinese Wall. When conflicts of interests arise, parties can construct a Chinese Wall and prevent the conflicted persons from influencing the matter. For instance, the league could designate a party who isn't conflicted to handle the matter in good faith to the best of his abilities, and the Chinese Wall would prevent Stern and others who have a conflict of interest from being involved in the process.

This does have great import for the future. If it is being reconsidered... which I'm not sure of, it's much like a Supreme Court ruling. It will forever set a precedent one way or the other. Does anyone really think the precedent will be to embarrass Stern and/or the NBA offices? Think again.

The best way to address any chemistry problems is for teammates to bond separately from the coaching staff. (Probably already have.) I think separation from management is a given, precisely because of trade scenarios/rumors. Players not mentioned in the trade should embrace their "ex-ex-teammates" with "Hey, not your fault. WE know your true value to this team. We're still in this together. We'll show 'em."

Of course, players not being dealt in this deal might, now, become parts of other deals down the line. This could become a real circus. The players need to band together in this way, if they already haven't. At the least, this is a GREAT reminder that professional sports is primarily a business... and a big stage for big egos.

I think the trade would have cleared 11 mil. Amnest Thabeet, add 5 mil.

A total of 16 mil would have been available. Not enough for Nene AND Chuck.

For Nene. Houston would have been able to offer $67 mil if the trade went through. Now they can only offer about $50. So long.

I'm a commerical litigator, alverwi. I understand conflict of interest. I know very well of the Chinese Wall. But we're not talking about setting up administrative procedures to keep one attorney from looking over the shoulder of another in an office where there's a conflict of interest...we're talking about inherent conflict of interest because each franchise owner also owns a stake in the Hornets. There's common ownership.

I recognize full well that there is an agreement out there between the owners that spells out how the Hornets have to be managed. But no one who is perusing this website right now has ever read that document. There are ways to manage the conflict...but it doesn't magically go away.

My sweet lord...were were really talking about offering a 4-5 year deal for $67 million to Nene?? The fact that we were spared from that alone makes me glad this thing didn't happen.
