As much as I malign food in Austin, there are few places that I really like. My favorite sandwich shop in town is the Noble Pig. The guys who opened it were chefs at Wink and a Michelin star place in the bay area. They make all their own meats and pickles and are only open for breakfast and lunch. If you guys are ever up near the Lake Travis or Cedar Park, you should check it out. The place is in a dumpy little shopping strip on 620 near Anderson Mill. http://www.noblepigaustin.com/
That place is right by my church and we go there sometimes after service. It's not really big enough and if we don't get there fairly early it get's too crowded and we go somewhere else. Anyway, definitely a great place to check out!
I don't go to Dallas much but the only place I have to eat every time I go there is Saigon Block. They make the best baked fish spring rolls. http://www.saigonblock.com/ In Austin, I recently tried Fabi + Rosi in Tarrytown and it was really nice. Don't expect huge portions though. Its a fine dining place.
i think franklins is the best bbq i ever had. just east of downtown. opens at 11AM but make sure to get there early or they will run out.
Awesome my girlfriends sister lives right over there I'll have to check it out next time we head that way. I ate at a mexican place called flores over there the other day... it was terrible haha but I'll give the area another chance.
Tried TNP sandwich and the duck pastrami. Both were awesome, but induced an 8 hour drool filled coma afterwards. Perfect winter food I guess.
