That's all she wrote. If the Lakers aren't protesting this thing and asking for an appeal, it's not going to be reinstated.
I think that's the issue. Why would he not allow the trade in the first place??.. it's in the best interest of the Hornets to get this trade done. It's a conflict of interest for the owners to be partial owner of the Hornets (except for Les A. and Jerry B.). I hope this deal goes thru!! **** you David Stern!!
That's what I believed as soon as I heard the trade. Why do you want to create a .400 team with extended payroll if you are trying to sell it? And once again, that's on STERN! He gave Demps free reign with no controls! The way I see it, one of two things has to happen here. Either they have to reverse and let the trade go through or they have to allow Paul to be traded with either Ariza or Okafor for expirings, picks and young talent. Because letting Paul walk away in free agency is NOT in the best interest of the franchise, especially if he comes in and plays them to a .400 record and the 14th pick in the lottery. If Stern and the owners are consistent with their beliefs, then they will allow a trade to go through that does the above.
I don't care how stingy Paul is. I'm assuming that a lawsuit from a player to force a trade somewhere will have no merit. I'm also assuming that a league with a lawyer as a commissioner will have his bases covered to prevent being sued.
You guys need to stop with the conflict of interest stuff. I realize it sounds very legalize....but EVERY DEAL the Hornets make with ANY OTHER NBA TEAM involves a conflict of interest. There's no way around it.
Broussard saying that Paul and the player's union have a "really strong case and the league may have to overturn veto".
ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix Nets reported four-year, $60-$65 million contract offer knocks Houston out of the bidding, source says. Too rich.
Regardless of how this situation ends I think we need to start a movement to have fans make signs to put up at every game across the NBA for Stern to resign. I'd love to see "Stern must go!" signs all season long.
Wouldn't it be delicious if Paul said "FYou, I am not playing this year and next summer I am signing with the Heat or the Lakers or the Knicks"?
Broussard is Paul's mouthpiece. Stern isn't going to overturn anything. This is Stern that we are talking about. You think he is gonna let Paul punk him? No, he will say "sue then".
The difference is that a deal was nixed that was PERFECTLY LEGAL, and that the NBA had created a perception that the Hornets' GM was actually authorized to negotiate deals. It was like they told everyone that Demps had a power of attorney, which created an apparent authority, then, after they got under pressure, said he had no authority to act as an agent for them.
Paul will obviously do something other than just shut up and report to camp. He'll be getting the Union to prepare a case.
