Its total B.S. Small market owners vetoed that trade. Stern looks like an ass on this. Why didn't Stern step in on the ridiculously lopsided Gasol for Kwame Brown bone head give away. All the three teams in this deal were giving up major assets and the Hornets were making out like bandits. I hope Chris Paul stays with the Hornets through out the whole season and they end up getting nothing when he leaves. I also hope the Rockets thump Dan Gilberts Cleveland Caveliers by fitty when they play them in Cleveland.
I am inclined to agree with you, DVauthrin, except that I thought the NBA would have avoided missing any games this year based on rational self-interest. Stern and some of the pathetic owners out there like Dan Gilbert are off the rails.
It would be fascinating to read the legal terms of the deal that was made when the league took control of the Hornets. If the player's union was party to that agreement they'd have a suit, but otherwise I don't see it. Chris Paul can't sue an "owner" for not trading him.
Stern Releases his BS Press Release Statement http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/217225/Stern_Releases_Statement_On_Paul_Veto Stern Releases Statement On Paul Veto Dec 09, 2011 1:28 PM EST David Stern realsed the following statement in regards to the decision to veto an agreed upon three-way trade involving the Hornets, Lakers and Rockets: "Since the NBA purchased the New Orleans Hornets, final responsibility for significant management decisions lies with the Commissioner's Office in consultation with team chairman Jac Sperling. All decisions are made on the basis of what is in the best interests of the Hornets. In the case of the trade proposal that was made to the Hornets for Chris Paul, we decided, free from the influence of other NBA owners, that the team was better served with Chris in a Hornets uniform than by the outcome of the terms of that trade." It's what has mostly happened in the past when teams have been sold off. I don't get why this isn't understood.
And he is right. If you want to sell, you either keep your star player (and convince him to stay) or add draft picks and young prospects that a new owner can build around. You do NOT add $31.1M with quality player in their 30s that will take you absolutely nowhere (at best 7th or 8th in the Western Conference with a first round exit). This trade would not do the Hornets any good. It would help the Lakers a lot - give the Rockets a chance to bet on the next 3 years - and sink the Hornets in mediocricy.
“@jmikeNBAusat: ... Ive heard today #Rockets would like to repackage something w/younger pieces to see if they can still make that happen”
Anyone know enough about the law to tell us on what grounds they can all sue?? Because its being said that the trade was rejected by NO, since they are owned by the NBA and not the NBA itself. On another note, even if they reverse the veto, Morey may not want to facilitate the trade now since some of his other plans are surely ruined.
I will got bananas if the Rockets have to sweeten their offer to make this happen. That would be outrageous.
Morey isn't doin nothin FIRE!!!!!!! HIM!!! nene is Goin to nets with howard........Nets Gonna Be Good to....wow...Morey isn't doin ****. But givin up our Good players for nothing. Just sign DeAndre Jordan or Sammy? All we Can do n wait for Next Year..what a MESS!
Funny how Morey finally lands that All- Star he gets screwed by Stern. No, Pau is not a superstar, but he's about a Top 10 player. By far the best since Yao and Tmac.
Sure, let`s add Lee and PPat. At least we get us a star . If the Rockets sweeten their offer, we need to get back another quality player. Bynum?
No, he has a legitimate law suit that could cost him 40 million or so.... by not making this deal. Let's just say he was traded, and he was to have signed a contract extension with lets just say, the lakers. He would be guarenteed money to be with team through an INJURY. Since, they were reluctant to let the deal go through. He is stuck with a franchise he didn't want to be with and he was within his right to want too leave. Now, lets just say because of this cataclysmic event, he gets injured in game 3 of the season, severely. He would have lost money due to the denial of the trade! The ramifications for Chris Paul are HUGE! This is his life and his gift from god to play basketball. And David Stern just dropped the ball and gave way to a possibility like this. I believe this can easily be a civil law suit.
Then Hornet's mgmt should have been made explicitly aware that they needed his approval for deals involving money over $XXX or contracts longer then XXX. They should not have been blindsided here. It should not have gotten as far as it did. Still on Stern.
Um no buddy... Scola + Younger pieces + Pick does not net Pau Gasol It's going to be something like Martin + Scola + Lee (or) patterson + Dragic + Pick for Gasol If that is so we get back more than Gasol.
