Until I see that agreement, I have no idea. Ownership always has the ability to put the halt on a trade, even if the GM's have agreed. I'd need to see the agreement with respect to how the Hornets are to be managed before I could argue or agree with you.
none of these stupid "experts" in the media seem to know what's going on when they claim they do. I'd say 1/5 insider info has a little bit of truth to it and the rest are just wanting attention.
No appeal possible for blocked Chris Paul trade The Lakers planned to appeal to the NBA office after the Chris Paul trade was nixed, but there was a problem: The NBA considered the trade to have been blocked by New Orleans, not the league itself. It's a sticky situation because the NBA owns the Hornets after purchasing them last December. "This is technically a New Orleans decision," said an NBA official who did not want to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the trade. In other words, one of the three teams involved in Thursday's trade technically got cold feet, but it's hard to deny the existence of a contributing factor to the death of the deal. Some small-market owners were irritated by the Lakers acquiring the league's top scoring-passing combo at point guard. http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakers...aul-trade.html
And for DD's sake, I don't even like NENE as much as I want Jordan or Marc Gasol. I'm just using NEne as the place holder in the equation. Nene would be the bare minimum of calibre center I'd want here.
Scola is a better rebounder than Nene and so was Chuck last season. IIRC Chuck was a glass eater off the bench in his first two seasons.
Nene averaged 7.6 rebounds per game in 30.5 minutes per game. Scola averaged 8.2 rebounds per game in 32.6 minutes per game. They are comparable in rebounding. Nene is a much better defender. Offensively, Scola may be more polished, but Nene is much more efficient. Scola is also undersized and older. If he was a free agent, he wouldnt be getting the same attention Nene is getting.
I agree. Their games are different, though. Nene is better defensively. Scola is better offensively. Nene's offense, and offensive efficiency, makes him marginally better. If you just really really want and need size and interior defense, then you can overpay for Nene, but by that much? I don't know. But if we're ultimately talking about Nene + Gasol vs. Scola + Martin + Dragic + NY Knicks pick, salary considerations included, I think it's a wash. I agree with those that think it is easier to fill a Martin type player than it is to get a Nene/Gasol frontcourt. But easier doesn't mean guaranteed. I'm not concerned about losing Dragic, or the Knicks pick, but recognize those are assets, and keeping them would be better. I just think it's a different approach to building the team. Doesn't necessarily make the team significantly better, but certainly can't fault DM for taking that type of path, when the current one isn't working. Gasol IS soft, and getting old, but it still a top 20 player in the league. Not only is there not another top 20 player that the Rockets are likely to get, any trade for another top 20 player would have required a similar package in return.
It's a desperate and shortsighted trade. It helps us a little (short term) and allows the Lakers to form another dynasty. There's no way to justify this move other than admit that the Rockets care more about selling tickets this season than eventually building a legitimate contender through the draft. This trade is fool's gold, and in five years everyone will look back on this deal as a horrible mistake.
Nene has the added advantage of actually contributing significantly to the defensive effort. I think we all understand what Scola contributes on defense.
LOL at Darth Sideous changing his mind. You go sue Darth Sideous son?? Did you not see me jack the Sonics from Seattle and laugh about it? Did you not see me cost the Suns a trip to the Finals based on a dumb rule and laugh about it? Did I not cancel dudes whole season based on a fight? Stern don't lose....
The ownership of the Hornets has to remove itself from decisions on running the team to avoid any charge of collusion, has to. The Commissioner stopping this trade gives the appearance of collusion, the manipulation of legal trades for some personally intended purpose. If it's a "good of the league" issue then it needs to be dealt with in the league bylaws or addressed specifically in the definition of the Commissioner's duties and powers, otherwise it is arbitrary and subject to personal bias or the appearance of it. The trade is either legal under the existing rules or it is not.
I see no dynasty with a fading Kobe and Paul. Bynum is the biggest question mark and knowing how the lakers play do you really think Kobe and Paul could share the ball? Miami is still better.
We'd only offer nene 11-14 million. Not 18. We don't have the cap room. Like I said, nene is not the only option.
