If Okafor goes to the Lakers? That is a big difference to the Lakers. Was he included in the final deal that got blocked?
He's been labelled soft...and his motor has been questioned...he's in the last couple of years of a contract at 31...and he may be going to a city he doesn't particuarly want to play for. I just have a hard time getting real excited about that, while at the same time helping the Lake Show find their next alpha dog to build around.
ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein No indication yet Stern prepared to reverse decision, but main argument is CP3 can't be dealt anywhere now if this deal doesn't go through
i remember the 2009 playoffs, sure. we had Yao Ming playing for us. if Yao's coming back with a brand new robotic body to play alongside Yao, then I'm totally jazzed!!!
Nene and Gasol are going to put up points together like T-Mac and Yao did?? LMAO c'mon man Nene has averaged 12 pts his entire career and whopping 14 a game last year. They would be a solid rebounding duo, but no way they can be your go to scorers and you succeed.
I don't want to get into a semantic argument, but the Lakers traded a veteran for Kobe, so they did not obtain Kobe by virtue of already having a high draft pick. The Mavs traded one draft pick (Traylor) for another (Nowitzki), so it not exactly the same thing.
Last season Nene wasn't among the top 15 rebounders at C. Among PFs Nene he didn't make the top 20. His career high season average is 7.8 rebounds.
i think this is going to go through. the league doesn't have much to stand on, other than a subjective argument that the trade wasn't 'fair'. here is what i think you do if you're the rockets. Part 1: Trade Scola, Martin, Dragic, NYK 1st for Pau Gasol. Part 2: Amnesty Thabeet Part 3: Sign Nene to 4 year $60 million deal. Part 4: Sign Hayes using MLE. Say 3 years 15 million. Part 5: Sign an experienced 3 fresh off an amnesty cut to a short deal (Rashard Lewis, Raja Bell, Richard Jefferson, Mike Miller, Metta World Peace, Brandon Roy) Lowry / Flynn Lee / Twill Vet / Budinger / Morris Gasol / Patterson / Hill Nene / Hayes
I understand that, and IMO, that is the way you go, you do exactly that instead of what Morey is doing. Trade Luis and KMart on draft night for a pick or player you like and develop them. Technically it is development of players acquired through the draft, and not by trade. DD
You do know keyon Martin was on his team. He's a a rebounding machine. You can't tell me Gasol and Nene on the court together can't avg. 35 rebounds per game.
We can't really know who's available via trade, but someone like RJ wouldn't be a bad pickup. VC/RJ reunion in Houston? We know DM has been interested in VC in the past.
Every offense requires star power. Ours is Kevin Martin. People forget how critical he is. To expect c lee to step up and be a star when he can't shoot fts that well is wishful thinking. Defenses will mug him.
holy crap. is this really where we are? a guy averaging 12/7 for his career gets $15 million/year? Hell, that's what Pau makes per year, right?!!!
Nene and Pau would be awesome. But... What if Nene decides to not sign here despite having Pau? We'd be in a sheet hole. Even with the front court, who can we rely on in crunch time? It will have to be a new person every time. Where does the scoring come from? Why would we give up so much to get Gasol here? Better yet, why do we give up so much to get Chris Paul to Lakers? The Hornets package includes pretty much all Rockets assets. All but a second rounder. What the pho? I am excited to see the clean up down low though. I'm also excited to see Lee and Bud step up their roles. Patterson as well. I hope Stern rearranges what the Lakers give up. A start would be we give up no picks and lakers give up a 1st and 2nd rounder. The NBA should just make any trade for franchise players require two 1st rounders from the receiving team.
Lakers heat celtics all would disagree. Also we got Clyde for Thorpe remember? Not to mention tmac. I think though you have to have one piece in place already and we have none. So yes...we have to shoot for the draft.
