Rockets, Lakers, Hornets trade near done Appreciation Thread Im on both sides of the fence on this failure of a deal. On one hand it would be nice to have Gasol but losing Scola & Kmart would suck. On the other hand Im sure Morey had a few more moves he was going to pull.
Basicly said that like everyone else he was skeptical of the trade at first until he saw the bigger picture of possible landing Nene as well. Said he didn't mind losing Martin because he thought Lee would be ok. Said that Rockets would still trade for Gasol even if Gasol didn't like the idea of coming to Houston. He thinks after a couple of days Pau would be ok. Said he would have preferred they tank but that Nene and Gasol would make them a 4 seed easy.
Courtney Lee is in a contract year, and would have been plugged in as the starter. He may be good friends with Martin, but no doubt he would've been excited for his opportunity if this deal happened.
The Rockets have too many players that deserve playing time, they needed a 3 for 1 deal like this...to clear room for younger players. Camp is going to be very awkward, and Morey has his hands full now with a roster of decent players whose value stagnates if they are not playing on the court.... DD

...ugh no they didnt... Everyone said...we are in playoff contention and we trade our starting PG for a back up... there was more venom for that trade then this one...i dont think 10 percent supported it. ugh dumb...
NBA teams have won championships with less drama than this. Big deal. And players having less value if they aren't given serious minutes. You mean like T-Mac? The Rockets don't have enough minutes to keep every happy, this is true. The solution is to trade the veterans for future picks and play the youngsters.

Woj made it sound like a bunch of owners were angry about the trade... I doubt Stern reverses it now.
Guys guys guys... This deal had train wreck written all over the place. You know damn well the majority of owner in the NBA (who are all part owners of the Hornets) will NOT want anything to do with helping the Lakers get a top 5 player while saving the Lakers millions and adding a lot more committed salary to their own pockets. Lamar Odom wanted nothing to do with new Orleans Pau Gasol wanted nothing to do with Houston You know damn well both of their agents probably had their paws on it too since both have invested millions into their current locations. This is what you get when the majority interest of the group of owners is to save their additional costs, and help the intrests of their primary team. It was NEVER going to work. The Hornets are probably better off letting Paul walk. It gives the team a clean slate, an easy sell without a large financial obligation. That, or deep down in the dark meetings of the NBA and its owners, they plan on contracting the team. Shed all salary, keep costs down then close the doors. No reason to commit salaries long term if in the end, the team won’t exist long term. No matter how much we piss and moan, the Hornets are the leagues team. They write the checks, they pay the bills, they have (and should have) the final say in their teams decisions. There are way too many self interests, and millions involved for the league and owners to do nothing. The league should have never purchased the team. That is the main issue here. Not this Paul trade. Too many self interestes involved for a fair field of play trade and free agent wise. I honestly expected this. It’s just sad what the league has become.
The problem for Stern is that reversing the trade would make him look weak, and he's made too many enemies to allow that to happen.
That's the least of his problems now. He needs to save his job and him keeping this stance won't help that.
Talk about selfish people. This how NBA has always worked. Its a business deal with it. Odom crying cause we was gonna leave his sloth.
I still wondering how Stern didn't use a different strategy. I mean he is effectively the "acting owner of the Hornets". Couldn't he have called the Hornets GM & Lakers GM and such and say, "so this deal won't pass the NBA. restructure the deal and maybe it will." If nothing else the PR fallout could have been avoided.

I hate the trade. But I don't agree at all what Stern or the owners just did. The only solution is to reverse the veto and retire. Stern is a joke. If not, then Stern needs to come up with a trade that is agreed upon by all parties. That way, Stern doesn't look bad in his eyes.
