The problem is that the couldn't block the Kwame trade because it fit the criteria for a legal trade under CBA rules in the NBA. He may not have liked it, but he had no choice. On the other hand, since the NBA owns NO, it doesn't matter if the trade is legal under the new CBA, as the acting owner Stern can do whatever he wants to veto any trade.
FYI, this trade block was clearly made for the New York market. Stern clearly wants Chris Paul in NY for schere television, endorsement money for the NBA. Paul going to Los Angeles, while it could continue the dynasty of the Lakers with a new big 3 in LA, doesn't necessarily add any additional revenue to the league. Paul to the Knicks seems to be the only thing that makes sense for the NBA to make this move.
I agree that in order to get a star you need to make some sacrifices of players who are on the team and that part might be painful. I do think it depends on which star you get though.
It wasn't just one series, though that can be a highlight. He's had the soft streak since he joined the NBA. He was often soft in the playoff series where the Lakers beat the Rockets. The thing about Pau is that he'll have some games where he's not as soft and actually trying to rebound, and other games where he just stands around and watches on defensive end and rebounding. That's just the way he plays.
WOW, A player didn't wanna leave a team he won a championship with to go to a non-playoff team that would be giving up it's two best players to get him, what a shock! I'm totally floored! Can't F%&kin Believe it!
I think the point he was trying to make was that Pau could have killed the deal by threatening not to to report to the Rockets.

He could have refused yes but he was under contract for 3 more years so if Gasol wanted to continue getting paid, he'd have no choice but to play here. But I have to disagree with what Clutch said on the Big Show this morning. Clutch said that he attributed Gasol's reaction to the shock of being forced to leave LA. I believe that it exposes what many have been posting here: That star players don't want to come and play in Houston especially now that Yao is gone.
No doubt that Houston has slipped into a 2nd tier team, but if they draft correctly others will come. Houston has never been a glamour city, we just had great players that liked it here. Now the Rockets need to start focusing on getting a great player in the draft. Trade KMart and Luis...sure, but get a GOOD draft pick for them...... DD
