CP is honoring it. The league is screwing over the teams in this instance. The problem is that the league is already a trust/monopoly. The NBA owning a team makes it worse. The ability of the NBA to arbitrarily nix deals is anti competitive. I'm not a lawyer but I think there could be legal ramification for this.
Maybe if he could get Deandre....but I belive Nene was informed of the trade and agreed to the money and playing with Pau...and that is why rockets made the trade. They have to fix this fast.
This. The backlash, ESPECIALLY as the very first thing that happens after the lockout?? No WAY this stands. This deal will go through.. ALTHOUGH, while I am sad to see Scola and Martin go, I do think we were over-paying by adding the draft pick on top of three productive players. Hopefully this deal gets back ON, and because of the backlash, we actually get a better deal by being able to keep the pick, or at least get a N.O. pick in return, something. As much as this meant more cap space and another deal in line, I still think the price was too steep. Cross your fingers folks!

Prob not...but I think rockets prob preferred Gasol...because Nene and bynum doesnt work like nene and gasol does... I dont think people realize what kind of front court that is... With Lowry C Lee ??? (assuming trade for top 10 SF) Gasol NeNe Your team is filled with two way players...we would have excellent D and offense... Not to mention lowry (pickNpop) to Gasol would make him look like a premiere PG.
I don't know, the owners don't want to have to dig into their own pockets and pay for another team to compete against them, I don't blame them one bit. The Lakers jettisoned over 20 million in salary and kept all their picks, the Rockets gave up far too much, but we have a dearth of players so it was not going to hurt them much, just looks bad on paper, and the kicker, the real kicker was paying all that money to the new players on the Hornets.... Who pays them? That franchise is losing money.....so each owner of another NBA team essentially has to dip into their own pocket to help pay for a competitor. Sorry, until they sell that team, they have a say. DD
I don't know the "rules" but I suspect that 29 owners "own" the Hornets - Stern is just the mouthpiece. So I don't think he has the authority to cancel just because but if an owner (or 27 of the 29) say don't do a trade, then you don't do the trade. Just like if Les said don't trade Yao and Morey tried to trade Yao, Morey would be fired before the deal ever got to the front office if he didn't back off. The situation is bad for NO, Lakers and Rockets - and their players of course. It's really got to play on Scola's, Martin's and especially Goran's (he was pissed that the Sun's traded him last year) mental psyche which most likely will translate into poorer playing (good news for the tankers). Really though - NO needs to be sold or disbanded because even though I wasn't for the trade (the pick was the icing), this isn't right.
Whether Gasol wants to be here or not he still has to come no matter what. I believe once he sees we sign another big he'll be ok. He could've been traded anywhere and he wouldn't be happy. I dont think it had anything with Houston but more with leaving LA
So you're forgetting about how trades have to be submitted to the league for approval or when GMs and reporters mention having to throw in picks or what not to get that approval?
Yeah I totally understand. That said, it is obvious that the roster isn't quite championship ready, and is contingent on Morey making some more "Morey deals". Andrew Bynum on the other hand, might give Morey more than 3 years to build a contender, and we wouldn't even need to sign Nene. A full on youth movement with Bynum as the centerpiece is extremely enticing, imo.
I wouldnt worry about Gasol not liking Houston if the trade does go down. He would like it enough after about a week. He was just upset about leaving the Lakers and all the perks that came with LA. He will realize soon enough that he is destined to be traded either way, and Houston is a great option other than Cleveland, Detroit, or Minnesota. Look with Houston, he is earning up to 8% more with no state tax, and gets to be the focal point a team that can still be a playoff team. Morey was sure to make more moves and signings after the Gasol trade to upgrade the team. Gasol was not he only move he was making and that was obvious. Plus, not growing up in the states he probably has never done or been anywhere in Houston other than the Toyota Center, Hobby Airport, and the Hilton. As someone who grew up in Houston, but has lived in and traveled to most major US cities, H-town is not that bad.
David Stern just needs to dig into the "Gundy Fines" treasury and pay New Orleans until they get an owner.
what would be awesome is if they made the lakers include draft picks and take on salary...and the deal actually gets better for us :grin:
I don't think the NBA has any choice but to have the trade go down. Looks extremely bad for the league if it doesn't.
