"breach of contract due to voir dire??" voir dire is jury selection i don't know who wrote that..but i wouldn't put much stock in it.
Nene is not elite. My perspective on this deal would be completely different if the other shoe to fall were an elite player.
But as part of the owner of the Hornets, he should be acting for whats best FOR the Hornets. Its clear in the e-mail that that was not the case. The NBA hired Demps for a reason and thats to keep the team autonomous - in order to avoid conflicts of interest.
SIGN THIS PETITION THAT IS GOING TO THE LEAGUE!!! IT NEEDS 10,000 SIGS TO GO TO COURT!!!!! http://www.change.org/petitions/nba...to-intervene-in-the-paul-trade-on-dec-08-2011 It was just created and is already at 963 sigs! If all of CF signs the sky's the limit!!! Show your support by supporting this righteous cause!!!
Because you think the deal was good for the Hornets doesn't mean it was. The Hornets are trying to create an identity in a tenuous market. I understand they hired Demps...but Demps serves at their pleasure..not the pleasure of CP3 or the players' union. When you're writing the checks, you get to make the call.
I clicked on the link, and here's what it said: Well this is embarrassing... We couldn't find the page you were looking for. EDIT: It worked the second time I clicked it
oh really? i just clicked it and it worked perfectly fine for me. http://www.change.org/petitions/nba...to-intervene-in-the-paul-trade-on-dec-08-2011
How was it NOT a good deal for the Hornets? Do you prefer the Boston package with Rondo and Green? They get a solid PF, a solid 2-guard and the 6th man of the year plus draft picks! GMs lauded Demps for getting a good deal for a superstar thats gonna walk after the season. He did what he could to avoid a similar drama Melo caused last season by doing his work early and gets the **** in return. Hornets got royally screwed by this move.
The trade was a good haul for Paul. The problem is it was the wrong haul for the team. They need to be sold. They need to rebuild. They need to minimize long term contracts so they can effectively rebuild with young players. Now, if Paul played for the Knicks and was traded to LA for that haul. It would have been the right trade. But the Hornets. The trade for Paul should have included expirings, young talent, and draft picks and possibly a larger expiring contract for Okafor. However, David Stern is really to blame here because of how he has managed the New Orleans franchise situation going clear back to the Charlotte days. This is the second go-around in New Orleans. The Jazz left there years ago for brighter pastures. So, when the Charlotte franchise failed, the move to New Orleans materialized. Why go back there? It never should have happened. And now recently Stern turned down a guy that would be a great NBA owner because he didn't want the team moved to the West Coast. So, here we are. This one is on Stern.
RicBucherRic Bucher On the trade that wasn't (yet?): great for NO, great for LAL if they were also getting DWest in S&T, inexplicable for Hou.
Again, this was necessary. I would say that even if the Rockets weren't involved. You can't have these sort of lopsided trades, especially if they create dynasties, because it demoralizes the fan base. Players are utterly clueless if they think small market fans are going to stick around and watch the same five cities win all the championships. This isn't the 90s. Owners have to be concerned about the ability of small market teams to sell tickets and remain profitable. Gilbert's comment about the Generals is absolutely spot on. He gets it, and he's right. The NBA is heading towards a cliff. It was a huge mistake not to push for a franchise tag, and this botched multi team transaction is a direct result of that. And someone in the Rocket's FO needs to alert Les and Morey that the trade would not have been popular in Houston, not - at - all, especially if Gasol was openly unhappy about it, which I think he would have been. PS, regardless of anything else, Luis and K-Mart handled the news with total class, very professional on their part.
But its been said over and over that getting Pau is just plan to lure Nene and possibly have the best frontline in the NBA.
great post, if we want NENE wa can still get it. cut Thabeet and you have Nene in houston. I prefer 100 times nene + scola + martin +dragic + 2 picks than Nene + Gasol and the first situation give you more flexibility
the big selling point to nene was he would get to play alongside gasol. now thats not a possibility for him anymore.
Could you expound further on this? That's pretty much how it's always been, I don't understand why the fans would get fed up now. Of all the professional sports, the NBA has had the least amount of competitive balance in terms of winning championships, that's just the nature of the game.
Either Scola or Okafor had to go to the Lakers too to make the trade work. Then they add this: http://twitter.com/#!/sheridanhoops
How much more flexibility to we need? All we've been doing for the past 2-3 years is collecting assets to remain "competitive" while being able to be in the hunt for star players. It's obvious that this strategy isn't working as no team wants a bunch of above average players in return for their star. At the same time, I totally agree with Gilbert- this deal is only worsening the major problem in the NBA- star players flocking to destination cities to create superteams. While I liked the deal for the Rockets, I hated it for the overall NBA. At this rate, we might as well contract all of the small market teams and just have 5 teams where all the superstars can unite and be happy playing with each other. So stupid.
