This baffles me, NBA owners do realize Chris Paul is a FA after this year, holding him hostage for one year only hurts the Hornets when he inevitably leaves. I hate this super-team trend as much as the next guy, but all you are doing is hurting two other non superteams to prolong the inevitable for 10 months. And for the record, subtracting Gasol/Odom and adding Paul doesn't make the Lakers a juggernaut. As long as Howard doesn't also go, I don't even make the new look Lakers the favorite out west. Chris Paul is leaving, no potential hornet buyer is gonna assume otherwise, so just move forward.
The big picture is adding all that vet salary between Odom, Martin, and Scola. If they want a buyer, a new owner, they don't want that long term salary commitment. The trade also doesn't make them championship contenders or give them the chance to revitalise their franchise with a prized top 5 draft pick in 2012.
It's hard to believe the league interfered in the deal...it was a pretty damn good haul for a one-year expiring contract.
let me see. Odom average 15, 10 Scola average 18 10 Martin average 20+ Dragic average 10 easy Paul average 16 and 10. Yea I think thats a good trade for the Hornets dont you?
Stern is a puppet. Can't take him seriously. He has 2 lockouts under his reign, and now this. There are soooooo many worse trades that have gone down, yet he wants to block this one??? Such a hater, makes no sense. if you were going to block any trade, it woulda been Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown! Why do this now? Just stupid. Might as well block Dwight Howard, D-Will, Nene, Chandler, etc or any other player that wants to move. Such a joke #%#
I dont know how much better of a deal david stearn will find.... if the NBA wants to keep things competitive.... a core of Dragic, MARTIN, odom, scola and OKAFOR... PLUS ARIZA seems pretty good compared to Paul, ariza, pondexter, anderson and okafor.... just saying!!!!! trading a great player on a below average team for the pieces to create a team that can fight every night on the court seems better for a team owned by the NBA and they were getting a 1st round pick to build on that... seems like a great deal for a small market team thats going to lose paul at the end of the season anyways!
I'm really angry at this. Furious at this sabotage and ridiculous intervention This was a terrific trade. Demps did a great job in a horrible situation. I wouldn't blame Demps if he sues the league and sues Stern. He should, this is an outrage. They completely undermined him AFTER telling him to go do his job. Ridiculous.
Vince Carter in his prime was traded from Toronto to New Jersey for Alonzo Mourning (who was on the verge of retiring and refused to play anywhere but Miami and was subsequently waived), Aaron Williams (who was averaging something along the lines of 3ppg and 2rebs and couldn't make a DLeague team the following year), and Eric Williams (who was a free agent at the end of the year and also couldn't make an NBA roster) and 2 protected 1st round picks. I can name maybe 5 trades that are 5 times worse then this one!! Stern, Gilbert and the Evil Empire need to get a grip!!
If the league changes it's decision and the deal is back on, what's to stop the Lakers offering Nene, now that Dwight seems to be out of reach for them. They obviously wanted Okafor back also, and if that doesn't work, I could seem them ****ting on our plans and signing Nene.
1. Kyle Lowry 2. 3. 4. Pau Gasol 5. Nene With Budinger, Williams, Lee, Flynn, Hill, Hayes & Marcus Morris and Patrick Patterson Daryl Morey had plenty of assets to keep adding to this core. I wish the deals would have gone down, just so we could have seen the younger guys compete for spots with 2 elite big men at the 4/5...

kevin ding on twitter: "I'm told there was a subsequent move coming for the Lakers, to get a power forward, not stand pat."
people on this board overrated their own players way too much. wait until gasol gets 2 double doubles. their opinions will instantly sway like motion in the ocean.
collusion? Gilbert, as an NBA owner, owns part of the Hornets. The NBA owners collectively own the Hornets. It shouldn't be a surprise that they have the right to veto a trade. It's just much more clumsy than it would be in a market where there's clear local ownership.
MAMAAAMAMAMAM, WE WOULD HAVE HAD OUR OWN BIG 3!!! LOWRY - THIS GUY WAS PUTTING UP CP3 NUMBERS MID-SEASON. GASOL - 2ND BEST POWER FORWARD IN THE ASSOCIATION NENE - TOP 3 CENTRE IN THE LEAGUE. (HOWARD, GASOL, NENE #3) Hollinger weren't kidding we were going to compete for the number 1 seed. ARGH THIS DEAL WAS A GENIUS MOVE HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE SWAT TEAM LAST MINUTE SABOTAGE.
