Ric Bucher is wrong more often than he is right... I would not read too much into it. Further if he did not want to come to Houston it was not the city, but the fact the team is not ready to compete for a title.

Blessing in disguise. Gasol would put the rockets in the wrong direction. The rockets need to trade scola and martin for either a legitimate franchise player which gasol is not or for 1st round picks. Even if we got nene to go with gasol we still wouldn't be championship caliber.

I disagree. What team in the West could match our size? Memphis is the only one... And if we made the finals it'd be a matchup nightmare for the Heat.

Exactly! Can't replace Luis' heart with Pau.
Martin wants to be here too, unlike him.

Luis' heart cant give us wins to compete in the West but Gasol and Nene's size can.

I meant together. Pau and Nene would probably be the best frontcourt tandem in the NBA.

    +1

This would have been the most feared frontcourt in the NBA. Athletic as they come, Gasol + Bynum was what made the rest of the league cried in their mommy's tummys all season long in the first place. Now we get an upgraded version of that? wooohoo!!! thanks stern .

You win in this league by having big men. Big men in this league are almost impossible to find now unless you manage to draft one, and maybe you could draft a great big man once every ten years. Now we get to have 2 elite big men in the span of a few months??? damn, morey you wizard.

When JR Smith and Wilson Chandler comes back in March, we could have signed them to a short-term contract. They would definitely be keen as they get to take on a significant role on a playoff team which they would have to sit on the pine for other teams.

    Lowry
    JR Smith
    Wilson Chandler
    Gasol
    Nene

You telling me that won't get us a top 4 seed.

and the final disappointing thing is, (as if things weren't disappointing enough to begin with), it seems that there is little action taken by the 3 teams involved in the trade nor the players to counter-act Stern's nix. Chris Paul didn't just want to go to the Lakers. He wanted to go ANYWHERE with a winning team. The dude was willing to go to the Clippers, man. I think Stern only would have approved it if the Hornets traded him to Europe or something, because thats the only place Paul hasn't been mentioned as having a desire to go to, right?

Not really. It was the combination of inside play with the ability to mix and match with a versatile guy like Odom that allowed Kobe to be the game breaker that he is. Also, Bynum has proven to already be a more prolific scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker than Nene. When healthy, that's the better option.

Besides, if that's the model you want, I'd take New York's Amare+Chandler, and they have an elite wing in Carmelo to go with it.

We don't have that elite perimeter game breaker, and I'm a huge fan of Lowry.
