Shaq didnt do anything without kobe and wade... this can go on and on lol - fact is, gasol is not a first option at this point in his career
If we or the Hornets send additional salary to the Lakers, can this deal still happen? Maybe send Ariza or Okafor to LA?
Fact is the trade makes the rockets at minimum a playoff team, and helps entice other good players to come here. If the team doesn't play well, you could always deal Gasol in february for picks and prospects and go into full tanking mode.
"When threatened, Ostriches run away, but they can cause serious injury and death with kicks from their powerful legs. Their legs can only kick forward. Contrary to popular belief, Ostriches do not bury their heads in sand. However, Ostriches may turn aggressive rather than run when threatened, especially when cornered, and may also attack when they feel the need to defend their offspring or territories. When attacking a person, ostriches kick with their powerful feet, armed with long claws, which are capable of disemboweling or killing a person with a single blow. In one study of Ostrich attacks, it was estimated that two to three attacks that result in serious injury or death occur each year in the area of Oudtshoorn, South Africa." -Wikipedia
Exactly the point I was making. Nobody wins being the only star, except Hakeem cause he was a bad ass.
KBergCBS Ken Berger Most CBA's have no-strike, no-lockout clause after work stoppage. But those are normal businesses. The NBA is so dysfunctional it's scary.
Gasol didn't even win a single playoff game. Either way, acquiring him does nothing for us but return us to the realm of perpetual mediocrity. I don't think anyone would come running to play in Houston because PAU FREAKING GASOL is here. He's not a superstar, and he's not worth trading two of our best players + Dragic and picks. Especially when the Lakers get Chris Paul out of the deal. You want to win championships right? Good luck getting past the Lakers. But hey, we don't need luck. We have Pau Gasol! And Nene!
KBergCBS Ken Berger For those wondering why all chatter stopped: After trade nixed, all league business effectively halted. GMs/agents didn't know what to do. sam_amick Sam Amick With Golden State motivated to steal center DeAndre Jordan from the Clippers, source says Houston, NO, Minnesota also in running.
The only reason why we should be upset is because we didn't make out like bandits in this 3 way trade. We're so used to Morey fleecing other teams that I think we get spoiled. We were probably expecting something along the lines of Scola, Thabeet, Hill, Dragic + pick for Gasol Truth is, we won't ever know what Daryl's plan and the exact details to this transaction was since it never came to fruition.
Paul Gasol is on his way to downhill. WHy are we desperate for Nene? He is no star like kevin martin?
Yeah we did http://blog.chron.com/nba/2011/12/ta...s-in-the-back/ The plan would have been to trade for Gasol by giving up Martin, Scola and Dragic to help facilitate CP3 going to Lakers. Then offer Nene a contract at around 12-14 million a year and re-sign Chuck. Lowry/Flynn Lee/Williams Morris/Budinger Nene/Patterson Gasol/Hayes/ Amnesty Thabeet.
I dont understand, this team you mentioned is in no way better than a Lakers team with CP3, Kobe, and D. Howard, or Lebron, Wade, Bosh. Actually, it is not better than an OKC team, the Mavs, the Bulls, Magic, SA, NY (with Chandler), or even Memphis (if they resign M. Gasol). And this team mentioned would not have any salary cap to sign anyone of significance next year, meaning it would be no better than a 2nd round team at best. Another thing I dont understand is, ok, CP does not want to play with us, I get it, I do. But if we let the Lakers get him, and most likely Howard, then arent we conceding the next 2-3 years championships to them? I mean, really, we are right? Then in that case, wouldnt it be in the best interest of the team to get younger players that will get better by the time the Lakers dynasty is over? In NO way will Gasol and Nene help us accomplish that goal.
I don't know, but I have a gut feeling that the trade will still go through somehow. The NBA has to realize that their conflict of interest does not allow them to step in in the way they did.
Haha true dat. well you can win if u have the perfect compliments... ala Dirk Diggler but its next to impossible.
Morey believes that we already have a championship backcourt in Lowry-Martin. I would've thought that the goal was to pair a big like Gasol with those guards. Would a Gasol/Nene/?/Martin/Lowry lineup even be possible according to cap rules? Even that lineup is flawed because it doesn't have a go-to person in end game situations. Is Gasol/Nene worth Scola/Martin/Dragic/Hayes/Thabeet/#1? sure I can see pretty even value there.
Pau Gasol had ONE bad playoffs and hes on the decline now? He's a legit 7-footer who can somehow play defense! Martin is only a scorer who plays no defense! take off your homer glasses and realize that having Pau and Nene (perhaps even CHUCK HAYES) is better for us ni the long run
Agree. Definitely not a fan of Paul in LA but the NBA's image is at stake here. New Orleans is getting royally screwed and people all over are frustrated over what has gone on. I can't believe Stern didn't know the repercussions of blocking this deal...
The pure lack of basketball knowledge on this board is absolutely astonishing to me. If you honestly watched this team get reemed at the basket every single game over the last two seasons thanks to their lack of size, and you aren't chomping at the bit for the opportunity to put two solid 7 footers on the floor at the same time... I don't know WTF to tell you. This trade, followed by Nene signing, made all the sense in the world for the Rockets. It would have given Morey two solid two-way players (Gasol and Lowry) and another very solid player (Nene) to build around. I don't know how anybody could look at this deal and say it was bad for the Rockets.
