Awesome email by Dan G. Plus, the points he made are all valid. We were the ones who paid for CP3 (Scola, KM, Dragic, pick), except instead of getting CP3 we got Gasol.
He does have a pretty good point though about these smaller market teams relying on the revenue sharing too survive and how the Lakers shedding payroll does affect the amount they recieved even though they are recieving the best player in the deal getting a huge trade exception and saving picks to try and land Dwight Howard and taking revenue away from NO and Orlando in the process. Also Jamison was a FA, he could have signed with anyone. And the Clippers are morons.
The owners should have just kept the revenue split the same and asked hard caps without no maximum contract amounts. The star players like lebron would make so much money, there would be no money left over for other stars.

Exactly. Dan Gilbert's loud mouth did some good for us and the league. The Rox were the ones who were paying the price for Chris Paul. Houston shouldn't end up with Pau Gasol just because Paul wants to play for the Lakers. His only option should be to stick it out with NO for one more season then choose his FA destination. If he wants to play for LA then he needs to find a way to get a S&T done. Let's hope Stern sticks to his word and makes an example of Paul.

Any deal that would move Odom and Gasol would save money over time, and any deal moving them should net a better player in return. I didn't think the deal was good for the Rockets because I'm not a believer in an unmotivated Gasol (especially if the rumors of him not wanting to be in Houston are true). So while I'm happy for the end result, Gilbert really is a whiny b****. His points are not valid. You can't assume that it's saving money when no one knows how the Lakers will intend to spend money in the future. They don't give a damn about saving money...everyone read about their tv contract. As someone who doesn't really care for the Lakers, I didn't mind the deal at all because I don't think it'd work out as a dynasty. Their front line is thin, and they're old. Overall, it really was a fair deal and ultimately, Gilbert's sour grapes is just screwing New Orleans the most.
WTF? No one had a gun to Daryl Morey's head. We were trading assets to New Orleans because we inserted ourselves into facilitating the trade when we saw the opportunity to get a coveted player and clear some cap space to sign others. The Hornets did the trade because they had the opportunity to get back some really good pieces that they'll have no chance at if CP3 becomes a free agent after the season (they may get a low pick, at most, in a SnT). The Lakers of course got CP3. This was a deal that three teams agreed to because they were getting back assets that they really wanted, and this d******d Gilbert comes along and ruins it all Why? Because he didn't like how it could possibly benefit one team in particular. Damn the steps the other smaller market "Washington Generals" teams he purportedly cares about were taking to improve their own squads. He didn't give a sh-t about that. The was a hater move to stop the Lakers from getting something they wanted. Period. F--k this hypocritical a-hole.
The logic is quite simple actually. As it stands, LA has to pay X amount of salary and a boatload of taxes related to that salary. This trade allows them to pay less in salary and escape the related taxes. Since the decrease in salary will be passed on to a league owned team then the owners of that team should vote on it to decide if they want to pay that increase and allow the Lakers to reduce their tax burden via their team. Pretty simple to me. It's no different than what Cuban said when the Hornets traded for Landry and he wanted some input since he was going to have to pay more.
When this league-owned team is about to fold because they got noting for CP3 and are trying to field a non-competitive squad in an apathetic city, and are facing a financial and PR disaster that costs them way more, we're going to have to deal with even more of this bullsh-t.
